What in the hail are you upstaters doing calling an ordinary, everyday hose a hose pipe. And the pronunciation of the “ i” in pipe is a cross between an “i” and an “a”.
The first time I heard hose pipe was when i was in school at Clemson and my Greenville friends

However, there is a clear distinction between a 'faucet' and a 'spigot'.

Maybe I am a little young pnly being in my early 50's. Never heard of hose pipe. We just had a hose always. I guess hose pipes probably can't be rolled up in a little donut. They probably just stretch 12 feet or whatever in a rigid straight line at all times.

That's a weird one. I don't think I've ever heard "hose pipe" said commonly, certainly not in my family. We always just call it a "hose." This is how we refer to garden hoses, soaker hoses, or just any regular type of hose we'd tend to have in the yard. Now there may be an appropriate context for "hose pipe," but I'm not even sure exactly what that would be, and it would probably involve a type of hose I'm unfamiliar with. Now we do say "drain pipe," but a drain pipe and a hose are two very different things. So I think I'm with OP on this one.

What a stimulating conversation about a "water hose" and a "spickit". I ditun think they could be pronounced any other way. Have y'all noticed how younguns have better pronunciation of words than we did as kids (and adults)? I think it's because of all the Yankees invading the south as well as the internet.
As the band Alabama put it, "I'll speak my southern English as natural as I please. I'm in the heart of Dixie; Dixie's in the heart of me."
I speak "Southernese" and I'm proud of it.
