Hopefully Saban will be heard

Basically saying same thing Dabo has been saying. It’s like pushing a boulder up the hill when head of NCAA says everything’s good and we do not need major changes.

If changes were needed why would coaches not get together, make a statement and have their AD and or President represent them at the NCAA?

Because there are plenty of cheaters who like this and have never given a ### about the student athlete! We will see who pushes for better rules! Look at our system of law enforcement on illegal drugs, punishment for violent felons etc...We let them out faster than we can convict them!

They called Saban a leader on the issue, but Dabo said much the same things two years ago and got trashed for it.

levels of success, that you aren't greeted with "So much for leadership, quitter!" as you walk out the door.

That's a pathetic response, Nick Saban has accomplished more in his college coaching career than any other HC, so why should he stay and fight a battle that he had nothing to do with this late in his career. He made the best and smartest decision he could have ever made for himself, period...

I was teasing the other poster about saying that Nick Saban effectively quit and showed poor leadership.

get a grip dude. He is 72 years old and had nothing left to accomplish as a coach.

His retirement actually gives him time to do things like this.

Agree that his will be a key voice going forward

From his retirement to his recent statements, I will be fascinated to watch and listen. He had better be careful; if he keeps up questioning the snowball that is building in favor of the SEC, he risked alienating his lapdog whose name I won’t post, but who we all know all know has a highly publicized radio and TV talk show.

I always respected Saban, but I find myself liking him more and more as he stands on principle and voices his opinions, regardless of how his audience may react. He has a microphone now, whether it is on ESPN or not, and he certainly doesn’t need a paycheck from anybody.

I agree. The last few years I became a big fan. Basically if they weren’t playing us, I’d root for them. Who’d ever thought, right?

The NCAA has been neutered by the legal system. SCOTUS decided to apply employment laws to people who are not employees, and Congress did not provide any exceptions to anti-trust laws for college sports, and states piled in to try to give their schools some sort of advantage. And courts have said even rules like transfer portal limitations (cannot force an athelete to sit out) are illegal.

The NCAA has been rendered moot.

Coaches should be heard, players should be heard and school presidents

should be heard. Then and only then can a system for the betterment of all be put in place. It doesn't need to be led by coaches and former coaches, and certainly not led by conference commissioners, its got to be a collaboration of all or else the 'best' system can't be in place.

Unfortunately we don't have a mechanism for this yet, as greed is running rampant up and down the sport. Only when that subsides, or hits a speed bump, can meaningful change happen.

Exactly, and a legend HC like Nick Saban can do the most as an X HC on the side lines saying what he believes would be best for the sport that he mastered!!!

I agree that’s a big part of the problem. No consensus and too many are benefitting from the current state.

Coaches are going to complain about anything that makes their job harder. That doesn't mean they're right, and it doesn't mean there aren't plenty of other coaches who would happily take their jobs if they get tired of making multimillion-dollar salaries to coach college football. Just look at all the coaches who left their teams to make a little more money at another school this offseason, and it should be clear that they're no different than the players.

.... who took "student" out of "student-athlete."

At any point in his coaching career did he ever make a single comment about "students"? Did he ever propose any action to increase "student" in "student athlete"?

Bret, I’m certainly not here to ordain him St. Nick but I don’t think he ever ran a rogue program. I did just a cursory internet search and it looks like their graduation rates have been in the 90s for the most part over the last several years. In fact, they were higher than ours in 2020. UGA on the other hand….
