An All-world Portal Powerhouse takes it in the chin from an ACC wannabe? Touché mon idiots…

When you turnover the roster like he did getting to 6 wins and bowl game should be the target. That’s a pretty big improvement over last season. We have yet to see massive use of the portal translate into top 15 programs that can be sustained. I don’t think Colorado will be any different without the stability of stronger high school recruiting.

If you were a high school recruit, there would be some questions to be answered. 1) will I have an opportunity or will I be replaced by a portal player who is older and already pre trained?. 2) do I want to play for a program in which the coach’s “brand” is more important to him than the university’s or the team’s ? 3) how can I trust that the promises made for me to earn an education while playing football will be upheld by the coaches and athletic administration?

As a former high school recruit who played and was friends with a number of elite bluechip recruits, this isn't accurate at all. An elite recruit thinks they're the best player in the country at their position. That's why Alabama, Georgia, and Ohio State could stack 5 Stars deep at every position. Every one thinks they're going to be the best. That's what makes an elite athlete, and no one who comes in with the thought that they're going to be replaced by the portal is the kind of athlete you want. I agree on the second one, though this is a very minor consideration. For the third, I promise you, that education is not that highly valued by most elite recruits. CJ, our greatest running back ever, had a wonderlic of 10, one of the lowest scores in history. That's considered illiterate by the test-makers. It didn't keep him from football greatness, but I don't think someone with a 10 wonderlic cares that much about that promise.
Here's what an elite recruit cares about, in order:
1. Am I going to be able to have a lot of television exposure to promote my name for the NFL? 2. Am I going to be able to compete for national championships? 3. Am I going to make as much money in college as possible? 4. Is there a coaching staff that will prepare me for the NFL that will stay around? 5. Am I going to have a chance for early playing time? 6. Am I going to be happy at a school (are there cute girls who will throw themselves at me, are there fun things to do at the college/in town, and to the extent a recruit cares about education (a handful do, I think Shipley did), this is where that comes in)? 7. Do my parents/siblings like the school. 8. Pretty much everything else.
Your questions really don't matter to an actual recruit. For the things they care about, some we do extremely well at. We have a lot of TV exposure. We have a consistent coaching staff. We will play the best player, even if early. We do very well on the cute girl index (though Clemson the town doesn't wow recruits like some other schools). And we have a good culture. But for the things that matter most , ability to compete, NIL, and even exposure are dropping every year.

I’m thinking you were recruited/played before NIL & the portal? So re: elite players do you think nothing’s changed?
I tend to agree that HS players being recruited want to believe that what they see from a coach/recruiter is what they’re going to get if they commit. The portal introduces another completely different variable now and coaching staffs that rely heavily on it are going to suffer with HS recruiting. It’s inevitable if for no other reason than human nature (or adaptation for that matter): when one variable changes the dynamics of the system will shift. What you’re suggesting is that everything else in the college football world will stay the same.

I do predate the portal/NIL. I also was not as elite of a college football player as those friends. I don't think it's changed. Before NIL, every team paid players under the table (including Clemson). After, it's the same, but it's more out in the open and widespread since companies are now involved too, not just a few wealthy donors. So the money has always been a top consideration. For some athletes, it might be the top, but I think more still care about positioning themselves for the NFL and about championships.
I don't think the portal is going to make a big difference with recruits. Whether it's a 5 Star athlete or a portal player, a bluechip recruit is going to think they're better than them. They're often wrong, but they will believe it. Look at Texas. They got Quinn Ewers with the portal and have been very active in the portal. Most of us would say "Yeah, Quinn can be careless, but he's a natural QB talent and will start." They had Hudson Card backing him up, a VERY capable quarterback. They then signed 4/5 Star Maalik Murphy. He didn't care about Quinn. They then followed that up with Arch Manning. That's one example. I guarantee you both Murphy and Manning thought they'd beat Quinn out, even though he was a tremendously talented portal player (and a redshirt freshman then).

If the President of the University of CO had a sack with anything in it, he would be asking Neon to hit the door and find himself a real football coach in the Portal. Oh, Coaches don't have a Portal yet? Or they have had one for years? which is it?

This is so dumb. Have you seen the economic impact Coach Prime has made? You just don't like him and that's fine, but the President did it your way already, and it left them awful and broke. If anything, he had the guts to hire Deion thinking oitside the box and not be a coward and be captain easy stance like you. You keep moving the goalposts on Deion. First you say he'd be lucky to win a game. Then, it's TCU was trash, so it didn't count. Now it's you have to be bowl eligible. Then, it will be they have to win a bowl game, then it will be oh no, they didn't make a playoff, and on and on.
Coach Prime challenges what you believe college football should be and you're uncomfortable and scared because Clemson could get left behind. Coach Prime blends old school with how the business is run today instead of speaking in platitudes and being late to the party on everything like our coach. You really buying that all of the sudden he likes NIL? Please. If Dabo had his way, it would only be coaches making any money still.
