NCAA - decades ago - willingly and eagerly became the minor leagues for the NFL and NBA.

Fast forward to today.

Actions have consequences.

It's over. And to continue to call the sport "college" football will be the height of shamelessness.

Pay to play is now legal under any and all circumstances including the ability to legally entice players to go the the highest bidder.
Welcome to collegiate unrestricted free agency…

Odd that Virginia would pursue this. They don’t care about football. I guess they want it for other sports.

Brad Brownell: Only Larry freaking Shyatt has a WORSE overall winning percentage among Clemson basketball coaches since 1975. Let that sink in. It's Larry Shyatt & then Brad Brownell.

It's a fairness issue for the athletes.
Now they can get fair market value instead of letting someone else cap their personal income while making money off if their talent and effort.

Will it look different? Sure.
Bad? Probably not.

It will be different alright. No connection whatsoever to the University for many of players other than they are housed there and play in a stadium on or near campus. That is until they move on to a higher bidding group of boosters who are fans of a different University's football team.

How? They can't do anything that violates the Sherman Act...

Without an anti-trust exemption granted by Congress. They are very unlikely to get it.
Only the four major professional sports have that exemption. They are universally salaried professionals and union members with union contracts.

Either college sports go in as is recognizing that NIL is here to stay and the NCAA can't control it - OR - the revenue generating sports become full on professionals while every other sport withers and dues it becomes a club sport.

A third way would be for Congress to reveal the Sherman Act. They're not going to do that, because we don't need any more crushing monopolies.
