Gonna get flamed for this but I wouldn't be that disappointed if Riley took a HC job as long as we could bring Jeff Scott back
I don't dislike Riley but he hasn't shown me anything thus far...hope that changes

Can we please get past Jeff Scott. We can do much better and Riley is better. A failed coach will have a hard time convincing recruits that they should play for him.

Jeff Scott has won 2 national titles as Clemson Offensive Coordinator. Jeff Scott's recruiting speaks for itself and he recruited a majority of the weapons on offense that allowed us to be dominant for years
Garrett Riley got blown out in a title game they probably shouldn't have been in in the first place and has no recruits that I can think of to his name that come even close to those under Jeff
I know you are supporting Riley in your reply and I understand that bc that's who we got, but to say Riley is better than Jeff Scott is laughable and just factually incorrect. Can that change 5 or 10 years down the road? Sure but it's just not true at the moment

Love the one our with, we got GR. Dabo hired him and gotta trust he knows what he's doing. He dos not even have a recruiting class under him.
Jeff Scott was great, he moved on and that position did not pan out. He came back to the local area and is doing what he feels like is best for him. The landscape has changed and maybe Scott is not interested in the brave new college football landscape... its a grind. He has a vote you know.

I like Jeff but while you’re pointing out GR getting blown out in a game, don’t overlook the fact that Scott got fired as HC down in Fla as well. Riley did the best he could with what he walked in to deal with at the time. We need speed and it’s on its way not to
mention plugging a few more holes. I like GR and Scott a lot. There’s room for both.

I would have confidence in JS though at some point. He is a great recruiter and WR coach. I also think he has enough experience to call plays. However, everything said to date is that he is all-in on his family. Not sure OC would be the job for him. Riley is the better fit and hopefully we see improvement to overcome some of the offensive talent deficiencies but if not Riley, the move would be best for another proven outsider IMO. There are other roles better suited for JS if he wants to be employed by Clemson in the near future which I don’t think he currently does

I agree on Riley being a better OC. Not sure Im on board with being a better recruiter. Jeff Scott did pretty well as a recruiter.

Personally the verdict is still out on him as of right now for me. So far he has not been blessed with a good wideout that one might consider a downfield threat.
Always questionable calls from us armchair QB’s but some seriously make you say why? If running the football works why throw it 3 straight times??

You’re basing your opinion on a very limited QB where most of the offense hasn’t even been rolled out yet.
Weird to say you aren’t sold on Riley, considering what he’s shown when he does have a QB.
Cause you know, offense seems to work much better when you have a QB capable of running all of it.
