I am not sure if DW4 was at another level, but I would take him over TL based on their performance in College. At his time, TL is probably better than DW4.

TL made some of the things he did look so easy I'm not sure he got credit for them.
Like he looks like a slow white guy but you see him running away from guys when he runs the ball.
but from a will to win perspective, DW all day.
That game against Bama he willed Clemson to a win.

DW4 almost got us two - but for a fake punt. In fact, three were possible if he had started as a freshman. TL was also amazing!

in the National Championship game against LSU. Deshaun was cool as a cucumber. Always. Even Saban knew he was in trouble if he didn’t do some special teams tickeration.

DW4....the guy made you feel like you always had a chance. He could throw 2 picks and come back to throw 4 straight TDs. Confidence was unshakable. Also very elusive and ran the rpo to #### near perfection

Personally, I don't think DW4 was on a different tier from TL16. IMO people overlook TL16s dominance a lot and it evens leads me to think folks just straight underrate how good he was which is crazy to consider since he's considered either the best or right behind DW4 as the greatest Clemson QB of all time.
The reason I take DW4 by a hair is purely on clutch performances. He played in some awesome games and of course had that walk off drive against 'Bama that will forever love in Clemson lore.
That said, I do want to point out a few things that my fellow orange colored posters don't typically recognize about DW4....he's also the reason we'd typically be in close games. Thankfully, he was a gamer that could dig us out and will us to victory but this is what leads to TL16 being underrated IMO.
TL16 was so dominant that he didn't have to lead Clemson back to win it on a game winning drive. I mean.... he's the QB that actually led to us routinely being playing backups by the 3rd QTR. People like to think DW4 started it...no. This didn't become a regular thing until TL16 and IMO DW 4 played with better teams outside of the 2018 team.
Anyhow, idk how TL16 would've done in college if he had the same games DW4 led us back in. There was only one true game where TL16 actually had a close 4th quarter game that required him to help will the team to victory (Ohio State - 2019) and he won.
However, if you're asking me who I'd want leading a game winning drive? DW4 so he gets the edge by a hair.
TLDR:
- DW4 by a hair due to clutch ability.
- TL16 is actually underrated.
- Each are Clemson QB GOATs and I'm happy we have this debate every year

First my opinion. I'm glad this is hypothetical and I would never have to make the decision because Watson did things that Trevor didn't and during the Watson era I would have not entertained anyone over him. Dammmm the kid was magic!

Watson 14-1 win over bamer 35 to 31 in (arguably) the most exciting game in Clemson history! Atleast i think so and I will reiterate that I despise making any comparisons. D Watson is Clemson royalty and how.

Lawrence 15-0 win over bamer 44 to 16 in (some would argue) the worst loss bamer ever took. Not just in Saban era on playoff but in history. 20/32 3 tds
Just by the pure qb most important stats I give the nod to Lawrence.
I will say again that I am glad this is hypothetical and no one would ever have to choose.
I would not change Watsons 3 years for Trevors 3 years or vice versa! Both 3 year runs were a thing of magnificent Clemson beauty! Love both players and teams equally.

Tough one, both elite level.
DW4
He lived for the moment, the opportunity. He had a competitive streak in him that once engaged the other team knew they were in trouble. He simply never gave in to pressure. He was turnover prone, gunslinger style led to mistakes. But if you need 1 drive to win a game, it’s fairly easy for DW4
