Here is the ACC Challenge

3

1) 6 to 8 Schools , have homes if they leave ACC now
2) the schools that want to leave must contain at least 8
3) there is no room for error as it takes 8 to kill the ACC and the GOR
4) if any one of those 8 is wrong , takes a larger payout to stay , or just waffles on killing the conference they may be wandering in the independent desert or stuck in conference USA ( fond memories of the coots)
5) not only does that keep all 8 ( if there are 8) somewhat stuck, it keeps any of those 8 from voting to add other schools. Why, you ask, because every team you add raises the number of schools that you have to have to dissolve the ACC.
6) this is going to take a leap of faith at some point by the 8.
9) I think behind the scenes , Clemson -FSU - Miami-UNC are trying to be sure that at least 9 teams have an option that will pay the same or more than the ACC is paying.
10)When they have the vote at least 8 have to cast their vote to leave at the same time.
11) that needs to happen by 8/15 or this drama plays out at least another year,

Spot on. I am hoping that the silence from Clemson is because we already have a landing spot; pending a release from the GOR. Earlier this year it seemed like 7 schools had landing spots and were ready to go. I’m not sure how this recent realignment news affected that, but it would have to be #### near impossible that the SEC and B1G haven’t already layed out some scenarios for Clemson and FSU.
I don’t care where FSU ends up, I want us to move to the SEC as quickly as possible. I know a lot of people on here bash the SEC as the thug conference that lets anyone on the teams with little regard for academics, but that is ridiculous. Clemson will be a great academic value regardless of what conference we are in. I want to take the only ammo other schools had against us by joining the SEC, and dominating it. There would be no sweeter outcome than that!

Regardless of what's said about the SEC being a thuggish conference, they get paid a lot of money, and they are the strongest FB conference. If Clemson was to end up in the SEC, we don't have to change who we are, and staying who we are doesn't make us a bunch of thugs!!!

So, in theory, if those eight schools all agreed that if any

Aug 7, 2023, 10:28 AM

one of them don't have a home after voting to leave, they reform as a new conference, then they could get the ball rolling.

I know...I know...that will never happen. There's just no integrity in higher education when it comes to dollars. Kind of a sobering reality to process for the leadership of America's institutes of learning.

But in theory, if there ARE eight teams with potential homes, I assume they are the bigger names.

Clemson
FSU
Miami
UNC
UVA
NCSU
VT
GT...or Pitt...or whatever.

So they kill the conference, see if they all get landing spots and if not, reform as the Whatever Whatever Conference and start putting together some additional invites (including...of course...the obligatory check in on ND).

At least it would be a fresh start on the TV deal?

(Note that I'm not advocating for this, per se. Just adding to the discussion.)

As an aside, this article shows average viewers for regular season games. I think it will surprise some how ACC schools compare to each other. A lot more eyes on Syracuse than on Miami. A lot more eyes on Wake than on Virginia Tech.

Does the 8/15 deadline..

Aug 7, 2023, 11:38 AM

really apply if 8 or 9 teams decide to break out? My understanding is that is the date Clemson would have to notify the ACC that they are leaving. If the ACC no longer exists, then that date would be moot.

That’s a good question. I would think it has something to do with the 31 million the ACC is supposed to divvy out for this season, but I don’t know.

I think it is time to vote. Let’s unmask everyone that wants out and see who gets an invite. I think they all will !

If the ACC exit fee is $120 million. Is the Big 12 a viable landing spot for any ACC school? They would be making roughly be making the same in the Big 12 annually. I'm not sure if 8 would have a landing in the Big 10 or SEC.
