a UGA, Alabama, OSU or a UM team. Period. He is beating inferior teams. NCSU was not a 10 team.

I'll just say this, DJ is quickly becoming the component I'm least worried about with this team. And by year's end, if we aren't playing those teams you mentioned, I doubt it'll be because of DJ.
That's a considerable jump from last year and it's hard not to pull for the kid after everything he went through last year and all off-season.
It's a long season and things can change but I'm not seeing a dominant team right now. Clemson is starting to figure some things out and if they can get healthy and some pieces fall into place in the secondary they will be there to prove you wrong/right at the end of the year.

Well, dude, he is good enough to beat these teams and we just need to play our best to do it. The best part is no one is looking as good as any of the past five champions imo.
Cheers.

Stop judging a player on last year. We are 5 games Which shows he’s better this year. And he has been good border line great. He’s no Dw4 or tl16. Nor does he have to be.

We absolutely, positively, 15000% had a national championship caliber defense last year, and it still hurts me how badly it was squandered. Good Lord man, they held the national champs to zero touchdowns.
DJ was 15000% the weak link on the team. It affected our performance and it greatly hindered Tony Elliott’s already weak playcalling.
If DJ could have fogged a mirror, we beat UGA, NCS, and Pitt last season, likely entering the playoffs in the 2 or 3 seed. You think we wouldn’t have crushed Michigan or Cincy to face Bama in a final that I personally would have liked our chances in?

One cannot discount how bad the O Line was most of the year and the fact that the expected leading receivers were basically unavailable all year.
However, I do think with a Watson or Lawrence back there we may still go undefeated in the regular season anyway. I am pretty sure all the losses involved DJ throwing a touchdown to the other team. Sure, Watson and Lawrence both had some turnover troubles at times, they were never that bad and could overcome them.
I'd like to get to the point where first round draft pick at QB isn't totally necessary for getting to the playoff. See UGA.

UGA is the anomaly. Going back, look at the last 6 or 7 CFB Champs.
Stetson Bennet Mac Jones (first rounder) Burrow (first rounder) TLaw (first rounder) Tua (first rounder) DeShaun (first Rounder) Jake Coker
5 out of the last 7 natty QBs were first rounders.
You gotta have elite QB play to win championships. Same thing in the League

Also seeing as most of those guys have had some degree of success, Lawrence had a wasted year as Urban Myer only took the Jacksonville job to try and ruin him and somehow finally beat Clemson, it is not a case of the winning QBs getting drafted way too high. See JaMarus Russell.

UGA and Bama would have neutralized him some kinda way and Cole is still the worst starting QB Clemson has rolled out in quite a long time. Everybody just wants to remember his game against Oklahoma, but that wasn't the truth.
Also, all this talk really does is make me miss Booth and Goodrich.

Cole looked like an NFL talent post season after Chad left and he had people calling plays with respect to his limitations. His problem was exactly like DJ's problems last season. He could function on muscle memory but couldn't think after the ball was snapped.
Ask either to delay the pass for three seconds then throw to any spot and they could do it. Ask either to read a TE and keep if he closed on the RB and they'd decide whether to hand the ball off or keep it before the ball was snapped.

My #1 go to when we played last year was...

[ in reply to Bruh, last season, we are in the natty game ] |

'I wish we had their quarterback.' Every quarterback we played against was better than DJ. I've said that a few times in my history with Clemson football but it was the first time our QB was a lesser player than 99% of those QBs playing. At times I would have traded DJ for the starter's backup.
DJ is a whole different critter this season. I still look for his picture and stats to appear in the dictionary beside the topic, Sophomore Slump.

[ in reply to DJ plays like this last year, our worst case sees ] |

really needed to see him at this point last year. He / the coaches coaching him / whatever it was around him....cost us last year.
Said the exact same thing this morning to my bros at the gym. People ##### and moan about us being good b/c of QB play and that shows their ignorance. Our defenses have been where we make our bread. When we don't have it, we're not championship caliber (LSU game). We had it last year, and we had atrocious QB play. If he was average, I agree completely, we get a shot at Bama in the title.
It is what it is, I reckon. Good to see him showing signs of improvement...that's all we can really ask for. I don't hate on the people still salty about last year, and still not trusting him.
For the most part, I'm still one of them. I am still very apprehensive w/ him under center.
Gotta give credit to Streeter tho. Whatever he's doing is unquestionably better than the offensive product we had last year, at this point in the season.
