DJ: My daughter and I were watching the game last night,

and when Dabo pulled DJ, and Cade drove it in for that first TD, my daughter commented:
"Look at DJ. He almost looks relieved! Like a weight has been lifted off of his shoulders."
She was right. Did anybody else notice this? I know he wanted to play, to lead, and live up to expectations. I have nothing but respect for him, and I think this whole thing was taking a tremendous toll on him. Turning this over to Cade may have been the right move on more than one level.

We all feel for DJ. A good kid with a bright future. He was given every chance to be redeemed and it didn't happen. That's life. He'll survive and thrive

Could be why he did so well his freshman year when TL was out with covid... no pressure, just go play with nothing to lose.
Last season got into his head that was never fixed. The pressure got to him. It happens.

He also appeared relieved in post game interview.

He’s a very good pitcher and baseball player too. He could switch to baseball or continue to play football.

I don't think Dabo is a bit reluctant to do what's best...

for each of our players. I imagine the pressure DJ put on himself was a lot of his problem. I suspect he may have been the best during practices. I do not believe Dabo was wrong to evaluate DJ as the better QB throughout this season.
What I regret is being part of the group that thought Cade should have started in week 4. Mine was an unformed position (guess) because I wanted DJ on the bench because his performance sucked most of the time.

Hard to say

Maybe he was relieved to get out from under that pressure. Who knows. Personally, I’d quit before having to put in all that work and endure that pressure if I wasn’t enjoying it. But maybe that’s just me.

He’s been pushed his whole life to be ‘the man’ on the field…it’s all he knows…and I imagine theres a large part of him that feels/felt like he would be letting everyone else around him down if he were to give it up. There’s also likely some embarrassment that goes along with not living up to expectations, whether they are fair expectations or not. There’s no shame in failure when you give it your all. I think he has given it his all and then some and I’m sure he will find what makes him happy and flourish.

I think DJ had already established in his mind that he was a steward of the position at this point until Cade was ready to take it.

And I think DJ knew that Cade has been ready for some time,

and he was ready to let it go so that he did not have to keep trying to live up to expectations he knew he could not meet.

Yeah, I noticed his body language when he was pulled in the Syracuse game. He looked relieved. I said on here last night to not feel sorry for him. He’s ready to hand the team over to Cade. I think he’s been ready for a while, but people like his parents and Dabo keep talking him back. He felt obligated, but he’s been checked out. Being a quarterback is like being a pitcher. If you are not mentally, as well as physically, prepared, you will not play well and your team suffers. Dabo and Streeter put the young man in a difficult position and should’ve know better. I wish DJ well in life and I think he’s ready to go home.

I agree. Watch his post game on field interview. It looks like he is excited about not having FG that pressure anymore. I wouldn’t be surprised if he retires from football after the bowl game.
