Bourbon Trail suggestions

My husband and I are going to Kentucky in September to travel the Bourbon Trail. We hav already made reservation to go to Woodford Reserve, Castle and Keys, and the Evan Williams Speakeasy experience. We are planning on going to Makers Mark, Buffalo Trace, and Angels Envy, but they are not taking reservations yet. We are thinking about Four Roses, as well. For those of you who have been, do you have any suggestions of other places to visit? We have rented a house for 6 days and want to see as much as possible. Thanks for any suggestions.

I don't know about the others but Makers Mark

lets you design your own label. Since my son was graduating from Med. School the next day I had one made for Dr. Treese. I even managed to sneak it out without him knowing. He is saving it for when his daughter graduates from Med School, or another great occasion.

I've been on 5-6 tours and enjoyed them all. You probably can't go wrong with any of these...or just about any of the distilleries. They've all been a little different, but all fun, especially if the whiskies they make are on your favorites list.

You do have a long list and I would suggest not trying to do more than 2/day. Any more than that and you'll be pressed for time, especially if you are doing a tasting, which I highly recommend.

Couple of specifics: we stayed in Bardstown one night and it's a neat little place with restaurants and bars for when the tours are over. Lot of distilleries in the area.

We also visited Old Forrester in Louisville and it was probably the best tour I've done just about the technical aspects of making bourbon. It's also right down the street from Angel's Envy, so would be convenient to add if you are going there.

Have fun.

You have chosen some good places. Do make it Four Roses tasting room. My favorite is the Four Roses single barrel. Buffalo Trace is very interesting and a good tour. They make a lot of the high profile bourbons. Wild Turkey is good for the history it has. Some distilleries have excellent restaurants, such as Bardstown Bourbon Company and Willett. Reservations highly recommended. If your husband is into baseball, the the Louisville Slugger museum and factory is a must. Schedule your visits wisely because it can be a trek between distilleries. You will have a lot of fun!!

We plan on a side trip to the Louisville Slugger facility. We are both huge baseball fans!

Agree on OF, super neat.

Do a bottle your own at angels envy.

Another interesting one is Stitzel-Weller. Basically now a dead distillery but a ton of history and sort of frozen in time from when it closed.

Friends of mine recommended castle and key.

To the point, I’ve done many and enjoyed them all.

A newer one (Jeptha Creed) is a nice hangout and right off the Highway.

If you are in Bardstown, I would definitely recommend Heaven Hill Distillery. Their biggest brands are Evan Williams, Elijah Craig and Basil Hayden's. They have a great whiskey tasting in their brand new tasting room.

Lux Row in Bardstown is good

Lux Row and Blood Oath are not too bad. It is a somewhat new edition to the trail, but worth a visit.

Going to Louisville in 2 weeks , have a couple days to spend there before heading over to Ft Knox to watch my son graduate from ROTC cadet school. Staying downtown, hope to get to Angels Envy , Old Forester and Michters. Last April I did Bardstown and Frankfurt, what a blast, I highly recommend doing it.

wineries, Woodford Reserve is the place for you.

I enjoyed visiting Buffalo Trace and Heaven Hill the most.
