Better RBs than ETN? 25 guys according to RIVALS …

Which of the 25 RBs rated higher than Travis Etienne by RIVALS would you take instead if you could turn back the clock?
Just using this as an illustration of why a guy like David Eziomume (who checks all the boxes) should not be disregarded because some services don’t happen to see him as a top prospect.
RIVALS thought ETN was a suspect rather than a prospect. Check it out.

If I couldn't have Travis, Najee Harris would be the next best thing. But Najee wouldn't have won us some of the games Travis did. Things worked out for the best!

Did you miss that Jonathan Taylor was in that class? He averaged over 2,000 yards rushing a year and 18 touchdowns a year in college and is the best of any of them in the NFL and it's not even close (if he recovers from his injury, he'll be a Emmitt Smith type). Etienne was phenomenal and was perfect for our offense, but Najee is the better pure running back and Taylor is one of those generational runners that can just put the entire team on their back.

I'll take ETN any day over either of them.
Travis saw limited carries at Clemson because of the offense, and played behind a mediocre at-best offensive line. He missed his entire rookie season in the NFL due to injury, so he's just getting cranked up.
Let's see who has the better NFL career. I like his chances.

Nobody ever said Rivals was very smart. Dumber than a bag of hammers--maybe.

Lots of pros in that top 25, not so many after that. Maybe these rankings mean something.

If there were 25 great RBs than that class, the ranking them doesn’t seem to matter very much.

Except that with the exception of Taylor (obviously) and Etienne, it's pretty clear they got it right.

You got me, I give up because there's h€lluva lot of white WRs on 53 man rosters every year. So many, in fact, that finding one who's previously a walk-on at the collegiate level & currently 1 year removed from a pro-bowl invite should be a cinch—

to Steve Largent's so far. - 5'10", 5'11" - good high school player, not heavily recruited - enrolled at nearby college - great college career - 4th round NFL draft pick for Largent, 5th round for Renfrow - not a lot of speed, good route running, gets open - NFL HOF career for Largent - Renfrow may not have a HOF career but is making his mark with solid seasons and the Pro Bowl invite.

He retired from the sport as the owner of all the major career National Football League (NFL) receiving records. Although he was a standout high-school football player and all-around athlete, Largent was not heavily recruited by college scouts, so he enrolled at the lesser-known University of Tulsa in his hometown. After graduating in 1976, following one of the most outstanding careers in the history of Tulsa’s football program, Largent was

Interesting to see Cordarrian Richardson at number 15! He is the one who de-committed from the Tigers and we landed with Etienne - and we thanked our stars and Cordarrian for decommitting. And now Cordarrian is ahead of Etienne at least in the minds of RIVALS - how things change!

That’s a nice list of 1-4 (and 13).
I don’t think anyone here on TNet would want anyone but Travis. But those five are pretty good.

IIRC he played for a tiny HS in Louisiana and didn't do camps.
Its obviously impossible to accurately evaluate thousands of HS prospects. The most accurately evaluated guys are going to be the ones that go to the major camps and/or play at big schools against other elite competition. Beyond that's its a bit of a crap shoot.

concerned. Truly elite combo of power and speed. He runs a lot bigger than he is from the power aspect, and a lot faster than defenders think from the speed aspect. So glad he was, and always will be, a Clemson Tiger.

Maybe Johnathan Taylor would be the only one. He’s pretty special and has great size. ETN would be a 5-star if retrospectively reranked though. Really special player.

25 is ridiculous, but there were some great RBs in that class. Jonathan Taylor is the best back out of all of them by far, not only in college but also the NFL. He has an argument as a top 20 NCAA running back of all time and may well become the best NFL back. Najee Harris was the second best running back out of any of them, so they got that right. He's already cemented himself as an elite runner in the NFL as well. I'd say Etienne is third, though Swift and Akers are both great runners.

Agreed! Najee Harris is the only one on that list who is even close to ETN........and I would still rather have ETN because of the world class speed in the open field.
