Things I miss at games

As you get older you want to hold on the things from the past but things change. Just a few things I miss from Tiger games.

Tiger Band playing Dixie in the 60's when I started going to games.
Getting into games for .50 or nothing if one of our high school coaches was at the West Gate.
Watching Danny kneel and use his stopwatch to time snaps on kicks.
Hearing the great arrangement of God Bless America from the 90's
Never knowing how many of our children's friends would show up to tailgate.
All the games before the idiotic woo hoo started.

Time marches on but memories remain.

Before the video board at the top of the hill

Pre game. Band stopped playing. Crowd abuzz. Faint glimpse of a bus at the top of the hill. Excitement swells. One orange jersey appears. Then two, three, the whole team. Band plays the first few notes of the orange bowl March. Crowd erupts.

No recorded video has EVER improved that entrance.

The whole experience is overproduced now.***

Pregame mascots from both teams getting into a ( orchestrated) scuffle. The country gentleman. Pershing rifles at every game. Playing on the hill at a very young age, completely oblivious to what was going on in the game. Seeing and talking to the coaches ( sometimes including Coach Howard) at Fike Fieldhouse before the game.

Cheerleaders doing actual old school cheers and not all stunts and actually hearing the mic man coming from the student section and all over the stadium leading them. So many of the old cheers have been lost like

Correct! Cheerleading had become gymnastics and acrobatics instead of what it was originally intended to be.....cheerleading.

Yes I miss all of those other things, but living in Colorado and after my accident I can no longer get there.

I remember the first few times I took my second wife back to the games about once a year. She couldn't quite believe the Clemson family atmoshpere. We were tailgating with friends and the group next to us had a little boy about 3-4 years old. He came over and tossed his nerf football to each and every one of our group. He was having the best time sharing his football with everyone. That is when my wife believed in the Clemson family.

Since we tried not to take advantage of our friends tickets we would usually go to a blowout. I don't think my wife ever came back in after halftime, she and our female friends just stayed out and tailgated the whole second half.

When I took my younger son to Clemson for the first time, he really liked watching the band come down to the stadium (he had made All West Tennessee Band in high school). After the game when we were driving back to Atlanta he said "Dad I thought you were kidding me, but at Clemson it really is uphill both ways.

Wonderful Memories.

Cheap hot dogs and Cokes in a paper cup. The Country Gentleman was a little before my time, but he needs to come back. A Clemson man needs no introduction.

You mentioned the "Idiotic Wooh Hoo" in a previous post. I would be interested to know HOW this got started, When and where and what group of silly little girls thought this was a good idea? It takes a magnificent cheer and makes it sound like about 2 a.m. at a 10 year old girl's sleepover as they look at pictures of cute teenage boys. Makes our entire crowd look and sound like a bunch of silly country yahoos.

I miss the way they would run down the hill. They are so spread out now that it doesn't have the same intimidating effect.

I don't remember that but I do remember the ROTC having a larger roll or presence at the games. Wonder why that changed?
