CNN

Mar 10, 2022, 6:57 PM

I literally haven’t watched CNN at all since around January 6 2021. I watched them during the election cycle. I admit I did share with them an hatred of Trump.

Once I knew the narcissistic personality disorder dangerous nut job president was out of office, I had no interest in following politics. I didn’t watch Fox or CNN hardly at all since then.

I’ve only tuned in to CNN since Russia invaded Ukraine. It has surprised me some that they don’t seem to be defending Biden as much as I thought they would. Yes, I get it’s almost impossible to defend him. And clearly CNN will always be a liberal democratic leaning voice.

But it’s my belief that the fear of craziness that Trump brought to the world is a bigger reason than even CNN’s liberal preference to explain their coverage against him.

If someone in the Republican Party is elected besides Trump, it is my belief that the liberal leaning media outlets will support them or at least not criticize them as much as you would expect. I think there are many in this country that just did not want an unpredictable crazy person leading the free world. Even if he has good policies that may help the economy, the lesser of the two evils is to know that a sane person is the leader of the free world.

CNN found a viewership in folks who love to hate Trump

Mar 10, 2022, 7:24 PM

Until the invasion, they were The Insurrection Channel (over a year after the attempted overthrow of the government by folks with no weapons).

They have by far been the best channel for covering the invasion though. But, I haven't noticed them hating on Biden much...

Bahahahaha!

Mar 10, 2022, 7:27 PM

McCain and Romney say hi!

The media as a whole has no moral compass any more.... much less CNN!

I’ll add: the only people who should listen to CNN’s advice and coverage Are libs because that’s all they are. It’s like saying the Dems should ask FoxNews who to elect...

You conveniently left out as much as you would expect. You’re no better than the media.

You didn’t address the fact that you misquoted me. Next time you criticize the media for misleading people, remember you did the same thing to me.

I think there's just more money to be made with partisan

coverage - and the large media outlets are always going to follow the money. All we can probably hope for from either side is a lesser degree of partisanship.

The first time I realized the media was trying to manipulate a story to fit a narrative was watching CNN. That was a long time ago. It made me realize some truth is a lie, and it is really easy to lie to people through visuals. Most intelligent people realize they are a joke at this point.

My criticism of CNN is much the same as my criticism of Fox: especially in primetime, they have become (very biased) infotainers rather than informers and they are far, far too far to the left. Cable news is a wasteland right now. And media observers have definitely noticed.

Trump panicked them, yes. They were justified in being panicked, IMHO. January 6th and Trump's incessant effort to overturn the election and the rule of law in this country proved that; history will put Trump down as a would-be despot, a traitor to the ideals of America, and he will go down as lower than Nixon in men who disgraced their office. It still didn't change the fact that CNN completely lost their nerve, their mind, and their way, and spent 24/7 of their coverage towards propagandizing against him. Once you become an infotainer, an advocate, injecting your opinion as well as the news, you're only going to present and focus upon the facts that support your position.

Once you ring that bell, it's very, very hard to un-ring. How do you go back to being a straight reporting company again? Your viewers come to expect the advocacy because people tend towards confirmation bias. It's bad candy to get your news "as you like it", in the words of Will McAvoy, because it means it's just confirming what you already believe, but we humans do love our bad candy. Which is a shame...because CNN has one of the best newsrooms on the planet. But the infotainment - and advocacy for positions - has become part and parcel of the brand. Recent media-observer ratings confirm it. You want your news, in an ideal world, to come from the center-left to center-right positions, CNN slants too far to the left, and they've blowing too many fact checks, particularly in regard to the abovementioned infotainers.

These are not good marks:

Only in the lib echo chambers and lib rewritten history books will Trump be looked upon as you suggest.

I do not agree. Outside of MAGA World - which is pretty much everywhere in the world not Russia and your own little cult - Trump is one of the most reviled figures in recent world history.

That is who will write the histories. That's who always writes the histories. Human progress is rarely linear and always seems to be a three-step-forward-two-steps-back progression but right now we're seeing with Russia and Ukraine and the way the world has responded to it exactly what becomes of leaders like Vlad.

So we already know how it's going to play out with Putin, in the long run. The question is: how long will it take? He either gets overthrown, or he clings to power and his nation crumbles.

And the problem is, Russia finally making an overt move on its neighbor shows definitively what they were all along. The sides are clearly drawn now, there's no fudging and hemming and hawing anymore: you're either on the side of democracy, or you're on the side of authoritarianism, and you've gotta choose.

Trump is an autocrat...which is why guys like you love him, and why the rest of us hate him. Thanks to his pal Vlad, that position has become increasingly unpopular but there's no separating Trump from his authoritarianism since that's exactly why his supporters love him. Which is exactly why Trump's biggest coat-tail riders continue to back Putin:

History will remember exactly who Trump was. They'll remember who MAGA was just fine too.
