Snooping around in my home as a kid I came across some pictures of my Dad's three years in the Army, WW2. I really did not think about being away from home for three years with my child like understanding of time. I recall saying to my Father, "wow you were not home for Christmas." He answered me, "I was not home for three Christmases." That was the beginning of my limited understanding of the cost of freedom. As always - thank you for your sacrifice. He was a mess hall sergeant and said all meals on Christmas were as "good as could be" to help with the homesickness of the day. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.

Lived on C-rations for 3 months and thought we were in heaven when we finally got B-rations. Had one in '67-'68 that was incredible cook and he taught his "cooks" well. The senior NCOs that were on separate rations were billeted next to the "Best Mess" used to walked over a quarter mile down to our mess hall to eat.
