Anyone else about to reach their limit with the new

“College” football? Quickly becoming something I don’t care for. Not against players making some $$ from local endorsements or limited transferring, but my gosh.

Absolutely I am. If I want to watch professional

football I can tune into the NFL on Sundays. At least they have some rules and restrictions in place when it comes to buying players.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Im mainly getting fed up with insane tv contracts that benefit

Large corporations, cable/satellite companies, conference and university purses all on the backs and Acls of young men who don’t know any better and will almost all be bankrupt within 5 years of the time they stop playing football whether professional or amateur

Added: what’s funny we all thought nil and portal would break college football and while I don’t enjoy the repercussions either I think the realignments have caused more harm than either and much faster too

Nice post and 100% with you. College football used to have an innocence and a purity to it that made it very endearing. It is one of the reasons why I loved it and watched way more of it than the NFL. Now, it is nothing more than a business and a minor league of professional football.

All of the conference allegiances are being broken apart and the brands are becoming meaningless. The NCAA should be tarred and feathered for abdicating responsibility to conference ADs and media empires. They ruined one of the best franchises in sports.

Clemson is fortunate to have had our run when we did; a time when programs were run the right way, and playing for pride, for your school, and for your fans, was the only reward needed.

College football has never been pure

There always has been cheating and attempts to cheat at the college level. The issue of players getting paid goes back 100 years ago to Red Grange who had agent his final year of college ball at the University of Illinois.

Yes. And I assume you remember our new conference member, SMU, got its football program SHUT DOWN and has never recovered from it.

Point being, while there was cheating there was also threat

Exactly, there will always be some who test the limits but most programs were run pretty cleanly, pre-portal and NIL. NCAA had actually done a pretty good job of enforcement and cleaning up from the SMU days.

Yes, that was my era as well and even Clemson had a probationary period. However, my comments were more about this century.

Not if you were a blue blood program

Most of the harshest punishments handed down have been to non blue blood programs. Only blue blood program that has received harsh punishment has been the USC Trojans.

There is cheating in everything, everywhere. The problem is that the NCAA couldn’t control it, so instead of enforcing it they made it legal.

I hope that I will never harbor ill will against our Tigers but some of these programs are headed for disaster and it’s difficult to come to terms with. The PROTAL Buffaloes are fun to watch but they are a sign of things to come.

As Frost would say, nothing gold can stay

Yep. "Shortening the game" has done nothing but keep the game the same length and replace playing time with commercial time.

I suppose my returning to work was a blessing

in disguise, as I don't have a lot of time to obsess over my favorite sport.

I don't like the developments in college football, believing the money is ruining it, and I have posted repeatedly about my disgust with the NIL and new transfer rules horsemanure. The costs to attend games have spiraled out of control. All of that has made me wonder if the Ivies didn't have it right all along with their refusal to allow bowl or CFP participation.

Yet, it is what it is and will regress into what it shouldn't be. At 76, I prefer to defer to my younger friends to determine what product they will see over the next 20-30 years, willing to abide their decisions, For the time being, I will anticipate our games, hope for success, carry on like a wild child during games, then resume my other activities without obsession.

There is one TNet participant that you cannot convince that YOU will not obsess over the results of a Clemson Tiger football game!!

There's a lot being said and written about NIL and the portal. My take is about 50% is real and the rest just folks trying to make money off folks making money.

Come game day, though, those topics are irrelevant. It's still as exciting as it ever was and will be. I guarantee you I won't be thinking about NIL or the portal or television contracts or whatever while the Tigs are taking down FSU.

GO TIGERS!!!!!

Other than it is becoming (for some teams) more like the one and done in college basketball. Can’t follow the highly recruited freshman as he slowly ascends the depth charts and root for him to make his mark. Now those highly rated kids who don’t find immediate success leave the fold.

Yes, we root for the team. But that team is comprised of players we often feel like or the ant to know.
