Any Bowlers here?

I first bowled at a reduced size venue -> Springs Park in Lancaster.
When a teen, would double date to bowl over in Rock Hill.
I have not bowled in 50 years, don't know why.

Did you ever jump off the 10 meter platform at Springs Park? I did it back in the 80s when I was kid. I wonder if that park is still there.

Yeah, all the time, but in the 60's. The park has been closed for years, looks kinda bad now. It was magic in the day.

Good many guys at work are in a league at Strikers in Rock Hill, but I do not have anything for those guys. I’m horrible. Spend any spare time on a golf course and not really that great at that either.

I am/was a serious bowler. I started bowling at 6 years old in a league. I bowled my entire childhood. I was even on the Clemson Club team when I got to Clemson. As an adult I bowled most of my working life. I enjoyed serious money leagues. Those typically were all men. Women could bowl in them, but not many ever did. Most were not good enough, in plain facts. I did bowl a few mixed leagues over the years. I met some good people that way . . but still enjoyed the serious stuff better. I once had a woman tell me I didn't look like I was having fun . . .that about says why I didn't enjoy the "fun" leagues. My enjoyment was inside and serious. Real bowlers will understand :) I still bowl some, but often wonder why I'm not still bowling as I did ?? I was/am a good bowler :)

I understand. The fun is putting obsessive effort and time into something that has little value.
I did the same with running.

I just didn't laugh and act silly while I bowled. A strike doesn't mean it was perfect. I could be very unhappy with a strike :) Lesser bowlers didn't understand that . .so I looked like I wasn't having fun LOL

I started bowling when I was 6 years old. I won many regional, state, and high school awards when I was young. They wanted me to be on the Clemson Club team back in the early 80's because I was still carrying a 185 average. I really haven't bowled much since then, but when I do I still roll anywhere from 175-210. I guess it's like riding a bike... you never forget.

Bear with me....I bowled my first games at age 10, at the on-base bowling alley at Hamilton AFB, CA. First game was a 68, second was a 102. As I grew older, I bowled frequently during my teenaged years, on-base in the Saturday morning teenage leagues when my father was stationed in Newfoundland (for four years!) and New York. Also was on my high school's bowling team in New York. Bowled on the base engineer team when stationed in Korea. While I never attained a REALLY good average score, I did have the highest male average at both high schools. Last time I bowled in league was in 1994, at age 40, with my last series ever bowled attaining a 197 average. I'd probably still be bowling now, at age almost 80, but starting in the mid-1990s my right hand began being savaged by nerve damage, resulting in a major loss of muscle and three bent fingers in that hand. But I still enjoy recalling all the good times at the alleys in my younger years. Thanks for reading. :)
