Some people have issues with women and sports, but say what you want, this is amazing. This race started in November. Cole finished second today. Several boats were de-masted at sea. Her Instagram channel followed her journey in the race from Spain, down and around the Cape of Good Hope, across and along the edge of the ice fields of the southern ocean, across the Pacific, rounding Cape Horn, and back to Spain. Her channel is NOT woke crap, just sailing. Pretty cool!

They showed a video of her in her cabin when the boat was apparently hit from the side by a rogue wave. The impact launched her through the air from one side of the cabin to the other where she crashed into the wall which injured her pretty badly. That incident is also in the clip you provided.

Isabelle Autissier(?), a Frenchwoman, got demasted in the Straits of Magellan. Iirc, two male sailors diverted their courses to pick her up. It was in the early days of internet, so visual comms were primitive. My oldest daughter was very young, but we met Isabelle before the race started and she avidly followed her. I would take them every year to meet the sailors. Massive balls to do a solo sail around the world.

rogue wave could easily have splintered her AND her boat. I applaud her to the highest, she is doing something I would never have been able to do, even on my BEST days. I prefer to remain firmly (or infirmly, now) planted on land.

That was always a dream of mine to sail solo around the world or to sail in the Whitbread race. I guess mine weren't quite big enough.
