Congratulations! I took that step Jan. 1 of this year and couldn’t be happier. Don’t worry about staying busy. You will now be able to do all the things you didn’t have time to do before. I play golf once a week (on a weekday!), spend one day a week with my granddaughter, go kayaking and hiking during the week when things are less crowded, and usually go to the gym at least one day a week. I am looking forward to being able to go hunting during the week so it doesn’t conflict with Tiger football. Last several years I only got 4-5 hunting days each year but that will definitely change this year. Currently refinishing a couple of rocking chairs. It has been all I had hoped for so far.

Congratulations. Through my working years, my thought for an ideal retirement was to wake up and then decide what I would do that day. I've been retired for 10 years now, and that is exactly what I have done. I'm fortunate to have a wife who understands me, and I'm so happy.

3 months??? Are you taking your wife? My wife and I would be divorced after 3 weeks on the road together. That woman hates long road trips.

Congrats! I retired in May of last year after 35 yrs of work. My wife who is a few years younger will work for another 5 or 6 years. Our daughter just graduated this spring from Clemson, and our son starts his 2nd year at Clemson today!

So there’s still bills to pay but we saved and invested well over the years. Since no grandkids (yet), and the wife working I won’t be staying busy traveling a ton. I decided to commit to volunteering at our church and take over the household duties to earn my keep. So far I’m enjoying life without the alarm clock.

What type of work kept you pulling the plough? Given your comments, assuming it may have involved the construction industry. Hope your healthcare plan is good and not outrageously expensive. Was fortunately able to immediately tack onto my wife's NC state plan. My firm's plan would've cost about 17k annually. Kept a few folks in our division from retiring since they had no other options. Wife's was about $7,200.
