A little blunt truth on the portal and NIL from Nebraska's HC

He sounds a little like Dabo in that he'd prefer to develop his own players and have them around for more than one year, but interesting that he's flat out conceding that it costs to get players from the portal - $1 million+ for a good QB, and that some teams have $6 million+ players. We all know that - but just kinda different hearing a head coach talk openly about it so matter-of-factly.

Crazy times. Whodathunkit 10 years ago or more.

No one knows who a 5 star QB is. We have had three of the last few that we had with that rating ,but obviously were misdiagnosed. Bryant, DJ and Cade. So we need better diagnosis on future candidates . The current system of this isn’t very good so my suggestion is to run more test and throw out the current check list

KB was never a 5-star recruit

but he went 16-2 as a starter at Clemson and got us to the CFP. He had a better supporting cast, but he still did his job and did it well.

That's the whole point. High school recruiting is always going to have risk. But after you've seen a guy play a couple of years in college, you know if he's "got it" or not. That makes it very lucrative for QBs to portal themselves out after proving they are successful.
