He looked promising when he first got here, but seemed to peak early. Hope he finds the right spot for himself. Glad we're actively looking to upgrade through the portal as well.

You're so myopic you can't see your hand in front of your face.

Dabo has a few misses, for sure. But he has exponentially more hits -- and guys who come out of nowhere to be big contributors.

But you'll never face actual facts. They don't fit your narrative.

Same thoughts I had. Do we not have the highest accumulation of star rated talent on our Oline than ever before? I thought I read that somewhere early in the season. I have always felt that Clemson has lacked the superstar oline coach compared to other top 10 programs. We just have repeated oline issues year after year. Tbe excuses of injury and youth are common. Eventually it looks like we suck at developing O-Lineman .

Sometimes things just don't work out. Could have been a beast in HS against smaller players, but at the major college level, those advantages go away as you are playing against people your own size but faster. It happens.

Maybe a change of scenery will do him good.

If development of an O-Lineman was a problem, then Paul Howard and Tristan Leigh would be end of the bench players.

Neither were worthy of playing time when first arriving at Clemson. Now, one is a key backup and might win the starting job at center next year; the other looks like a fixture at LT.

Personally I’m not ready to give Spiller the boot. Since TL left we’ve had no deep threat and a very poor OL, teams have been stacking the box on us basically knowing we aren’t going to beat them deep. It’s hard to make your backs look good when the D knows it’s a bubble screen or off tackle run

He never peaked. He only saw the field in limited mop duty until this year. Same with Bryn Tucker, Leigh, ... the list goes on. All highly rated. Hard to say that many college recruiters that recruited them all missed on evaluating them.

You must have missed watching the final four games of this season.

Tristan Leigh started each of those games at LT. He played well enough to be our starter in the upcoming bowl game; he’s the likely starter at LT for the 2024 season.

As per response to another poster on this thread, our OL coach isn’t the problem here.

Paul Howard and Tristan Leigh were, upon arriving on campus, totally inadequate for playing CFB.

Now, P.Howard is the likely starter for next year at Center, and T.Leigh, after earning his way to the starter at LT, is certain to start the bowl game as starting LT and the odds-on favorite to be our starting LT for the 2024 season.

Best of luck to Mitchell Mayes. He was a fine player for us and would have remained as a key reserve for us had he stayed for the 2024 season. I hope he starts for his next team and has a great year.

coming out of HS.

ESPN had him as the #2 OT and 14 overall, while 247 had him as a 3-star, 21st in the state of NC and the 34th-ranked Offensive Guard.

You don't usually see services differ that much on a player, and, sadly, I think ESPN missed the mark here.

To be fair, all of the recruiting services whiff frequently in OL prospects.

This goes for both over rating and under rating. I can’t imagine that ever changing. What matters is how well the coaches evaluate OL prospects.

Wish Mayes well. I hope he finds a better spot. However, he is example #1 of a player who has finished up his academics and the staff must move on to another scholarship player. I’m certain that’s the message he received. In the past Dabo may have allowed him another year taking grad classes but those days have to come to an end.

It just feels like this magnifies the issues in out O-line room. I don't claim to know the solution or problem but we can't recruit O-linemen and we can't seem to develop the ones we get, and now they are exiting via the portal... It really feels like there's some major issues that need to be addressed at the coaching level, but then again, I don't have a clue. I'm just a fan.
