156 - Dallas Cowboys Select Lowndes Shingler with Pick 156 of 1961 NFL Draft

Interestingly, the Oakland Raiders also selected Lowndes Shingler with the 68th pick in the 1961 AFL Draft.
(Go figure!)

At Clemson:

Clemson QB Lowndes Shingler (1958-1960) led Clemson during a time in which offenses focused heavily on rushing over passing. That said, Shingler is credited as having impressive passing skills. Ranker.com described Shingler as follows:

“A skilled passer with a powerful arm, Lowndes Shingler showcased impressive downfield vision and accuracy during his tenure as Clemson's quarterback in the 1950s. His ability to make difficult throws and quickly dissect defensive schemes made him a potent weapon in the Tigers' offense. Shingler's competitive spirit and unwavering devotion to the program endeared him to teammates and fans alike. Though his career numbers may not rival those of some other Clemson quarterbacks, Shingler's undeniable talent and impact on the program secure his place among the all-time greats.”

https://www.ranker.com/list/best-clemson-tigers-quarterbacks/ranker-college-football?page=2

In 1958 and 1959, Shingler shared Clemson QB duties with teammate Harvey White. In 1960, Shingler was the sole primary QB and put up strong statistics. According to Wikipedia:

Dave Lynn and Lowndes Shingler were the team captains. The team's statistical leaders included Lowndes Shingler with 790 passing yards

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1960_Clemson_Tigers_football_team#cite_note-4

Sports-Reference.com provides Shingler’s Clemson statistics as follows:

1958:
- 22 Completions for 336 Yards (15.3 Average)
- 2 Passing Touchdowns
- 38 Carries for 130 Yards (3.4 Average)
- 2 Rushing Touchdowns

1959:
- 18 Completions for 346 Yards (19.2 Average)
- 5 Passing Touchdowns
- 33 Carries for 77 Yards (2.3 Average)
- 1 Rushing Touchdown

1960:
- 61 Completions for 790 Yards (13.0 Average)
- 1 Passing Touchdown
- 71 Carries for 274 Yards (3.9 Average)
- 4 Rushing Touchdowns

Clemson Career (1958-1960):
- 101 Completions for 232 Yards (43.5 Average)
- 8 Touchdowns
- 142 Carries for 481 Yards (3.4 Average)
- 7 Rushing Touchdowns

After Clemson:

As stated above, Shingler was drafted both by the Oakland Raiders and the Dallas Cowboys in 1961. Two different leagues at the time meant two different drafts. Shingler does not appear to have stats for either team. Based on my limited search skills, it appears he served in the military before sadly passing away at the young age of 23. He left a young wife behind. If I am missing something there, please correct me accordingly.

OL Jordan McFadden (2018-2022) was a rock on the Clemson offensive line. And, he had the awards - and the respect of his teammates - to prove it. McFadden’s bio on ClemsonTigers.com describes him as follows:

Technician who became one of Clemson’s most respected team leaders by the end of his five-year career spanning the 2018-22 seasons … three-year starter who played 2,960 career snaps from scrimmage, the third-most of any offensive tackle in program history and the seventh-most of any Clemson player across all positions as of the conclusion of the 2022 season … two-time All-ACC honoree who started the final 39 of his 56 career games.

2022: Voted by his teammates as a permanent team captain … earned the Jacobs Blocking Trophy, presented to the top blocker in the ACC, Clemson’s 10th all-time selection for the award and its first since multi-time All-American Mitch Hyatt won the honor in consecutive years in 2017-18 … first-team All-ACC honoree … garnered first-team All-ACC honors from the AP and Phil Steele … second-team All-ACC selection by College Football Network … third-team All-ACC selection according to Pro Football Focus … started all 14 games for Clemson, and his 989 offensive snaps tied for the fourth-most by an offensive tackle in a season in program history

2021: Second-team All-ACC selection … also collected second-team all-conference honors from the AP, PFF and Phil Steele … played a team-high 872 offensive snaps over 13 games (all starts), finishing the year as one of only four Clemson offensive or defensive players to start every game … his 872 snaps were the most by a Clemson offensive tackle since 2016 (Mitch Hyatt, 994)

2020: Started all 12 games at right tackle, playing 767 snaps as Clemson led the ACC as the only team to allow fewer than two sacks per game … earned second-team All-ACC honors from PFF

2019: Played 315 snaps over 14 games

2018: Played 17 snaps in three games while redshirting

Virginia State Route 156 is a 57.38 mile state highway that runs from the south end at US 301/SR 35 in Templeton to the north end at US 260 Bus/SR 638 in Mechanicsville in the southeastern part of the state.

Clemson basketball's Sweet 16 opponent, Arizona, is a public land-grant research university in Tucson, Arizona. After an appropriation from the Morrill Land-Grant Act of 1862, the university was founded in 1885, the first university in Arizona, on 40 acres donated by 3 people at a local saloon. Now the university has 53,000 students on about a 400 acre campus in 19 colleges and schools including the University of Arizona College of Medicine and the James E. Rodgers College of Law. The athletic teams, the Wildcats, compete in NCAA Division I in the Pac-12 Conference, but will be in the Big 12 next year. Notable alumni include Barry Goldwater, Nick Foles, Craig T. Nelson, and Kristin Wiig.
