10 Notes on Today's Game

1. Tigernet is awfully quiet when the team plays well, but, I get it.

2. Sitting a few rows from the court, I am continually impressed at how much size we have on our team. Joe G is 6'-2", I am also 6-2", people always comment on my being tall, but Joe G looks like the shortest guy on the court at all times!

3. RJ Godfrey snagged several offensive rebounds from being in good position and just being athletic, he's still rough in some aspects of his game but he is a force in the rebounding game.

4. MOST IMPORTANT - I was noting all game to "keep scoring", and we never had a prolonged scoring drought of more than 2 possessions or so. That is what was really biting us in the last two games, and I hope we can continue to be consistent in generating points.

5. Chase Hunter and Joe G were integral in keeping away from a scoring drought, as their movement off the ball and prowess in the 1 on 1 game was on full display. Chase in particular is one of the better off the dribble guys I have seen since Stitt (RIP).

6. PJ had an off night, but still got his points at the end. He fired the team up in the second half and will continue to be our core piece.

7. Everyone off of the bench played well, it's impressive how interchangeable we are.

8. Chauncey Wiggins shot the ball well, his size is impressive in that anytime he gets the ball, he can get a shot off. That being said, he got stuck in the middle on several defensive switches and doesn't seem to have an edge yet for rebounding, I'm considering him a work in progress at this point since Godfrey is likely to swallow up his minutes as we get into ACC play.

9. I think that Boise State could have given us a challenge by switching to a zone, I don't think we're nearly as good against a zone defense and their consistent man to man allowed us to do a lot of cuts and get 1 on 1 in the lane a lot. I recall Davidson or UAB going zone for a bit and giving us fits when the 3 ball wasn't going down.

10. I really miss J Dew, I know people complained about him but he was a bundle of energy. The in game experience has kind of dwindled a bit, hardly any t shirts thrown out, bland MC who only comes out a few times a game, etc. But, that's just my opinion.

It is very noticeable on tv that girard is the smallest guy at clemson so it's surprising that he is 6'1.

RJ could be a crazy good TE. He gets 50 50 balls with ease and can bully down low. We had no issues rebounding with him, schef, and 3 guards on the court at once. Encouraging.

You could argue that 4 bench players all deserve more PT.

Dillon hunter's shot has been impressive.

Good to see us playing our best against the best competition we have faced thus far.

Agreed on Dillon Hunter, if he can continue providing quality minutes with solid defense and ball handling, the good shooting is an added bonus.

I agree about Dillon Hunter.

I believe he's going to be a really good player. He's super athletic, handles the ball well, and makes good decisions with the basketball. He hustles and plays very good defense.

He is already good at attacking the basket, and his outside shot seems to have improved a lot. If he can become a solid 35%+ shooter from three, look out.

#4 is a major key to our consistency. If we can continue to avoid those big scoring droughts then we have a chance to be really good.

Missed 10 mins of the first half and and noticed Wiggins didn't play much until the last couple mins of the game. Saw the box score where he was 4 of 5 and 1 for 1 on 3 pt so was curious why he just got 11 mins total.

Brownell isn’t very patient with him for whatever reason. Wiggins had a bad sequence where he made a bad pass that led to a turnover and then he fouled a guy in the act of shooting right afterward. And then he rode the pine for most of the rest of the game

I agree that i would like to see wiggins get more PT. You could also argue that jack clark deserves more PT. Same with josh beadle and dillon hunter. He's competing with guards at the SF spot as we play in 3 guard sets quite frequently.

Wiggins is 9th on the team in minutes played per game, but who should he take minutes from? definitely a few from hemenway, and maybe a couple from Schef? Some of that would probably go to jack clark too.

Wiggins: 12.5
Clark: 13.5
Dillon hunter: 14.8
Hemenway: 17
Godfrey: 21.3
Schef: 22.5

It's a great problem to have. I think the depth of the team is what has allowed us to play so well in the second half of games. Lot's of fresh legs on the bench. I just hope no one gets frustrated and bails to the portal because of lack of playing time.

I talked to Asa Thomas between the men's and women's games yesterday and he confirmed that he was being red-shorted this year. He was good with the decision and looking at to big picture. He wasn't going to get much playing time anyway.

He shot the ball well, most of his minutes were early in the game. He just doesn't look quite as comfortable on the defensive end as most of the team, or in the rebounding game. Hopefully he can progress throughout the season.

His defense needs improvement and that impacts his minutes.

Thanks for telling me you know nothing about basketball without telling me you know nothing about basketball.

with most of your points, including that we have a lot of scorers on this team. Hopefully, having this many can keep the draughts away. This seems to be an unselfish team that has some chemistry early in the season. Sometimes Brads strict discipline basketball gets in the way of shooters, so i hope that doesnt happen, but i like this team better than any Brownell team ever.

I personally stay away from Tigernet, FB....ALL social media type stuff, if the Tigers are playing decent.

I don't want to "jinx" anything :).

Go Tigers!!!

I've dogged Brownell a lot but this does look like a complete team

It certainly has the potential to be the best he's assembled, especially thanks to the depth you noted. I really hope we can make some real noise in the ACC this year.

The biggest takeaway I had from the game was how well we rebounded the ball. It was the thing I was most worried about coming into the game and our best effort of the year.
