*Inshore* Fishing Qwestion

Why do people who fish from the land cast as far away from it as they can, while people who fish from the water (boats) cast as close to the land as possible?

The premise of the question is false. There's this thing called "offshore fishing"..........

Best way to catch redfish and brown trout in the fall. No two ways about it. HOWEVER, I can still troll for mackerel and bluefish inshore away from land...and I catch cobia in deeper water.......so the premise really doesn't hold true in all cases.

now when you say brown trout.....you mean spotted sea trout? Brown trout are a freshwater species.

spotted, yes. For some reason we call them brown which is incorrect.

One of two reasons.... They don't know what they're doing, or, they're really just out to waste the day. Maybe that really amounts to the same thing????

The answer is quite simple. They are trying to catch fish.

People fishing from land are typically on a beach and casting far gets in deeper water where fish are moving in and out and away from people splashing, which scares off the fish.

People on boats typically find spots on an incoming tide with oysters or structure, and the reds, founder, and sometimes trout move up into the bottom of the marsh to feed. Other inshore species, like drum, sheepshead, and larger trout are out deeper, typically on structure.

Basically, a boat is better but far out is your best bet from the beach.

A lot of it has to deal with the risk of surf fishing near structure. I lose a lot of tackle fishing jetty’s and structures because the tide pushes me into them and I cannot control it from the beach. On a boat you can control it much easier allowing it to be more practical to fish up against structure. Not to mention you have to stay on top of your poles surf fishing around structure so you cannot just leave your stuff and relax.
