Bball history and been the hometown hero. Now since he lost and Duke didn't win a national title, he will just be lost in the shuffle of a long list of good Duke players and will be forgotten or be an afterthought.

Conversely if he had come here and taken us to sweet 16 or elite 8 he would be remembered for sometime

I think he might transfer to Clemson, sit out next season,

and take us to March Madness in 2021. He could even plead discrimination at Duke and maybe play next season. The NBA millions$ can wait.

He will be a big NBA star and take on the identify of whatever NBA team he joins. In 5 years nobody will even think about Duke when they think about him, just like Kyrie Irving now

To be fair, that's all NBA stars

Do you think Arizona St. when you think of Harden?
Russell Westbrook and UCLA?
KD and Texas?
Paul George and Fresno St?
The examples are countless.
I'd say, unless one leads his college team to a championship, most NBA superstars' college career is forgotten.

If they achieve big things in college I think so

Like Anthony Davis at Kentucky, Steph Curry at Davidson, Hayward at Butler, Kemba Walker at Uconn, Melo at Syracuse
Historically guys like Jordan, Ewing, Magic Johnson still had association with their college program.

Sometimes I think of the college

MJ and UNC ? Big Red and UCLA ? Olajuwan and Houston ? Sampson and UVA ? Abdul-Jabar and UCLA ? Manning and Kansas ?
Those players and a few others ... I think of their colleges when I think of them .

But none of those were one-and-dones. All played at least 3 years in college.
Every one was instrumental in building a program or cementing a legacy that pre-existed their participation. Walton and Alcindor were the cornerstones of Wooden's greatest teams.

One and done, with not even a Final Four, will be quickly forgotten, in the annals of Duke greats!

Duke fans when talking about him will always be that he attended Duke not about his actual Duke accomplishments. Here on the other hand, our fan base would probably be talking about him for sometime. Plus he would go down as only CU player to be #1 NBA pick

Here’s why I agree with you. You’ll likely recognize the names, but I bet most wont remember when they played or how the team finished at Duke. Further, some won’t know what they are doing today.... Luol Deng Cherokee Parks Trajan Langdon Elton Brand Shelden Williams Zion Williamson..........
Just another Duke “name...”

You honestly think we would have been a Final Four type team with Zion Williamson on the roster ? I know we reached a Sweet 16 a little more than a year ago but this team was not as good as that team . I think we'd maybe have won 23 or 24 games and been a 7 seed or so , but " could have taken us that far " is a real stretch from my perspective .

If Zion would have gone to Wofford, Woffor would be in final four, and probably bringing home the natty!

Even when he didn't pick us, I really didn't think Duke was the best pick scheme-wise. It just seemed that the rest of the team played one way and he played his own way. Not knocking the kid, just seemed that if we would have picked one of the other blue bloods, it may have worked out better. Oh well, time to enjoy watching him send LeBron to retirement.

I love Clemson sports as much as the next guy, but Zion on Wofford would've went further than Clemson with Zion.

I think about it this way. Zion in place of Simms in the starting lineup. That’s about 15+ points per game, plus potent shot blocking along with Thomas. That’s the scoring output we lost with Davoe and Grantham from last year. We lost many games by less than 5 pts. So I conclude with Zion this team could have made a deep tournament run and playing with a lot more confidence on offense.

With the way NBA salaries and endorsement money is growing, Zion literally has a chance to become a billionaire over time if he can stay healthy and makes the right moves.
While I appreciate the being a hometown hero, I’m not sure that is something that is even on his radar. I believe there are very few young kids that are that talented and can see further down the road 1 hour much less 20 years or so. Not many CJ Spillers out there.

Zion would have had better support from the guard position at Clemson than he did at Duke. I am obviously no expert, but Duke relied upon a very talented group at forward but seemed to lack leadership from the guard position which normally dictates the pace and manages the game plan.
