I believe FSU is always the most frustrating team to pitch against in the country. They take a lot of pitches (lead the nation in walks at 6.2/game). They foul off a lot of pitches. They constantly call time and step out of the batter's box to mess with the pitchers rhythm. The head coach will often complain to the umpire of a balk even if it wasn't close just to get in the pitchers head.
The advantages that Zach uniquely has against FSU: He doesn't walk batters or throw many balls - 13 walks all season in 87.1 innings and against 76 K's. His bread and butter pitch is a splitter which is difficult to foul off - if they tip it, it's going to be on the top side of the ball and will probably wind up in Okey's glove. He works at a nice steady pace and is not easily rattled by distractions. This doesn't mean we will necessarily win. He's facing a good team and a very good pitcher. It's just making a point that he is uniquely wired for this FSU matchup. He had 11 K's in 8 innings against Georgia Southern and they seemed to be taking a lot of pitches. I don't think that taking pitches when you face Zach is a very good strategy. Looking forward to tonight's game. I'd love to see Zach's performance prevent Matthew from getting his 3rd ACC POW award this year . Go Tigers!
Thankful to see Zach have such an amazing game. He was at 73 pitches after 6 innings. Without the rain delay, he would have likely completed the game. He and Matthew could be co ACC POW's this week.
