When I was a student, I made several road trips to away games. Athens was

Absolutely the worst experience I had. Went in 2015 with my roommate. Waking through the streets we had dozens of UGA people yell f###### at us. All the people were rude. It took forever to waiting in line to get inside the stadium. We had UGA fans throw beer at us. Barking in our faces. What an awful place. Made me appreciate gamedays at Clemson.

I've heard a sewer runs under the Sanford Stadium field. If true it explains a lot

Agree and our schedule often features the three most awful places to go for a college football game.
In order: 1. Athens - Georgia, 2. Columbia USC, and 3. Raleigh NC State.
That is why is feels so good to beat them on their home field.
And the one game that we have canceled with the Coots was in Death Valley!
At NC State, I remember they had their own fans shooting (and killing) each other at their tailgates.

Compare that to Texas A&M, all the Aggies told me they thought Clemson fans were great, and they said the same thing after visiting Clemson. Auburn is a good place too. Same with most other ACC schools.

Go TIGERS, Beat the dawgs...

Actually...

I'm pretty sure that would be Columbia, SC.

If the whole friggin' city sank into the abyss tomorrow and was lost forever and never to be heard from or seen again, it would be a service to humanity.

Columbia is where the south would get an enema

May 21, 2021, 9:45 AM

Just a little different, but actually very similar.

Without question or exception...

May 21, 2021, 9:20 AM

UGa has the most vile and repugnant fans I have ever encountered and no other team is even remotely close.

I will give them credit for one thing. They don't discriminate. They seem to hate all opposing fans equally.

Sounds eerily similar to Athens in 1982. Made it to the car safely, but saw multiple assaults on the way there. I literally would not go back there if you payed me $10,000 a day.

I'll sign up for $10,000 a day just in case anyone was going to offer him.

After the 1982 game, my friend had to go get stitches on her scalp. Someone threw a liquor bottle at her. We were just walking back to our car. We were not saying a word either. Just trying to get in the car to get back to Clemson.

Maryland was the worst I ever experienced.

May 21, 2021, 9:25 AM

But I have never been to Athens for a game.

Maryland used to be pretty bad too...

May 21, 2021, 9:28 AM

especially when their teams were pretty good and all of the local NFL fans jumped on the Terp bandwagon.

I remember being there on a Thursday night and Maryland's win over Clemson secured the ACC Championship for them, so they were headed to the Orange Bowl. Their fans pelted the Clemson section with oranges.

NC State fans are A LOT like uof6c fans....

May 21, 2021, 10:58 AM

They are are bunch of incredibly ignorant, mouthy, deluded trailer trash rednecks but, for the most part, they're harmless.

I second Maryland (and I have been to both)

May 21, 2021, 11:13 AM [ in reply to Maryland was the worst I ever experienced. ]

College Park (and Baltimore where the game was played) and Athens are 1 and 1A on my never again list of places to never go for an away game.

You're exactly right - no place is worse than a game in.....

May 21, 2021, 9:28 AM

Athens. Those self-entitled fans of theirs look down on the other team's fans and are as crude as they come. I made the mistake of taking my young daughter to a game there back in the 80s. We turned around and came back to Atlanta because I wasn't going to subject her to the abuse we were getting.

When we tripped to Athens in the late 70's. Absolute worse experience/ Fans would toss empty mini bottles on top of us in the lower deck. When we left, F bombs, crude, rude and verbal abuse.

Worst I saw back then at UGag was from the trestle crowd and those bozos were too cheap to pay to get in

UGA and USuC are very similar in many ways, all bad.

when they come to Clemson. I think the word that spawned them must be among the first words their unmarried parents ever taught them. They use it freely in conversation as a verb, noun and adjective. :(

The most profanity I ever heard used during a game...

May 21, 2021, 12:35 PM

was at a Tennessee wimminz hoops game.

I have never heard women (and I use that term loosely) cuss like that before or since.

Never visit LSU

May 21, 2021, 11:02 AM

I hear you on the Dawgs, they definitely have a caustic culture, so to speak.

But nothing in my experience compares to LSU. That's a different level of 1980's hair-metal raunchiness outright. I've never felt more terrified at a sporting event, that's for sure (at least in Athens you can just walk out of the stadium & surrounding area).

I have to agree that UGA fans are despicable! The last time I went to Athens, I was on crutches from a recent minor surgery. It became a game for those imbeciles to try to knock my crutches away from me. My date got angry, so then he was confronted by some "fans." Security settled it, but it was the most miserable and uneasy I have ever been at any game.
