Former Clemson center commits to ACC school
Former Clemson top-100 center signee Lynn Kidd will be facing the Tigers soon. The IMG Academy product announced a commitment to Virginia Tech on Tuesday. Kidd reclassified to the 2020 class from 2021 last summer to enroll for last season. He played in seven games, scoring a season-best four points Read Update » |

If the Clemson program was worth staying for then he would still be here. It’s not his fault. The elephant in the room continues to grow

The likes of Coach K has only lost four to the portal in 21 so that should affirm our programs’ portal departures are far out of control. Oh, wait?

Seems like you’re saying it’s impressive if another school does well but not if Clemson does.

I'm with you Judge. And what does "COMMITTED" really mean these days anyway? Gripes my butt to see that word in bold print on the announcement. Committed to what? And I ain't hating on a kid who decides to leave but they should not be able to transfer within the Conference and COMMITTED in bold text pisses me off.

Unlike you I'm a Clemson fan first. I was a Brownell supporter until the Rutgers game. ACC tourney was a huge disappointment, but the Rutgers game was the final straw.
BTW, don't forget to find some negative CU football threads to chime in about how it isn't good news. You're consistent at that when it comes to football.

accusation by a track athlete accusing our football program of providing improper benefits to football players. I didn't create that news story, nor did I start a thread about it. I merely stated that such accusations could be harmful to our football program's reputation, and that it surely played a role in our AD swiftly reinstating the track and cross country teams.
I even stated that I don't personally believe that our football program has done anything wrong, that I trust and admire our coaches, and am glad that they are men of integrity.
You and your ilk are obviously unable to see my comments for what they were, and instead want to create this ridiculous notion that I don't like our football program and want to see it harmed somehow (despite literally thousands of posts here to the contrary).
Perhaps you need to examine why a stranger's reasonable comments about Clemson football in that thread bothered you that much.

You were giddy to jump on the first post about those accusations, just like you you got pleasure jumping on the DW4 saga.
The tone of your posts about Brownell as opposed to football are completely different. You should really consider being a UNCheat fan.

those accusations.
I don't like to see any of our athletic programs accused of cheating. That is especially true about football.
If you truly think I am happy about Deshaun's situation, despite my sincere posts telling you that I am absolutely not, then message boards might not be for you.

I'm not sure you know what mediocre means.
May 19, 2021, 4:32 PM
|
|
I'll help you out:
Finishing in the top 1/3rd of the ACC (top 5 out of 15 teams) is not mediocre.
Finishing with the #21 RPI is not mediocre.
Beating a record number of NCAA Tournament teams this past season is not mediocre.
Making the NCAA Tournament is not mediocre.
Being the #27 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament is not mediocre.
Hope that helps.

Let's see how his stats end up after this season since some think that his stats were not great so we are not losing much. I think we are gonna regret losing him.

It seems a lot of our players hit an offensive ceiling under Brownell. Some even regressed in the same season this past year.

Stats are not everything. A 7 ft player simply holding his own in the middle is a good thing. Rebounding, protecting rim, some defense and a few dunks don’t fill the stat sheet (other than wins). I would expect him to do ok even with not getting any playing time last year. (37 minutes all year). BB has signed 3 7 fters in past few years - all transferred out.

Yeah, the kid comes in a year early and now that his body is shaping up to actually get on the floor/Simms graduates - he leaves. What does VT's depth chart look like? Looks like he wants to make a splash one year and bolt to the league. If I had to guess - he thinks VT will be that for him.

Aluma their center is testing NBA waters with no agent. so you never know. Kidd might want to be right behind him but Aluma is more of a power forward so there is that too...

and that there are serious issues behind the scenes with the program.
Yes, that's the most likely explanation. It couldn't be that we have an unprecedented situation in college basketball with the transfer portal and the "free year" due to COVID pandemic.

It would have been a bold move, but if DRad would have had the interest in M-Basketball , we could have possibly landed Young when he was at Wofford. Perhaps injecting a shot of enthusiasm in our program.
Instead, well........

it will be interesting the next few years when we play Tech is how Hall and Kidd play each other. If Kidd develops better than Hall does that show Tech's staff is better than developing talent than ours?

Anyone remember when Judge Keller scoffed at the idea the Mike Young was remotely on Brownell’s level as a coach? Now he’s 3-0 against Clemson, finished higher in ACC standing in year 2 than Brad has in 11 (we were officially 4th in 17-18), and is now poaching our players. Good stuff from our resident hoops expert.

And I'm starting to find it a bit troubling.
I think Mike Young is a good coach, and I expect him to do a good job at Virginia Tech.
But you're going to a lot of trouble to portray our coach as inferior when our coach is the one with the better career winning percentage, the better ACC winning percentage, and more NCAA Tournament success than Young has had.
Which leads me to the same conclusion I've had for a while now: you aren't a Clemson basketball fan.

i guess you sent out a memo to all your minions to call me a coot - since that's all you seem to have left.
"a lot of trouble" - a single post, which I do less frequently than you.
"better career winning %" Mike Young is 16-17 in the ACC as coach at Virginia Tech. Brad Brownell is 95-99. So essentially the same. Still has a 3rd place finish in only season 2. Brownell has never finished the season in 3rd place. Were officially 4th in 2018.
"more NCAA tournament success" - Young has only made it out of the round NCAA round of 64 once. Guess how many times Brownell has.
So, to promote a coach over the University you deliberately misrepresent the facts. But that is par for the course. Young has only been at a major conference school 2 seasons. What's your guy's excuse?

Well, we'll see. All I know is its getting late in the portal season. We have little experienced depth in the frontcourt. A major injury there and its not far to the ACC cellar.
