Recruiting and dabo

Jun 6, 2012, 1:38 PM

I happen to agree 110 percent with dabo in regard to not allowing players to take any other official visits once a verbal commit has been made. If a player wishes to continue to look around then my advice is don't commit. The agreement between a player and a coach is a two way street. If dabo is willing to commit a scholly to a player then it isn't unreasonable to expect the player to show some good faith by demonstrating a reasonable intention to sign. Continuing to shop around is akin to saying , " sure I'm committed until I change my mind." that leaves the coaching staff in an unreasonable predicament. They don't know whether to continue to fill that spot or not. So I agree, if a player accepts an offer and commits and expects Clemson to honor that offer, then it is reasonable for Clemson to expect them to demonstrate good faith. Otherwise, lettem go and fill the spot with a young man that really wants to b here. That values the opportunity . Clemson is a terrific place n the student athletes are treated very well. If my sons r recruited by Clemson someday I'd be quite proud .

I like it too

I mean if you're not too sure, then just hold off, granted I know kids get excited, but it is best to hold off unless you know for sure 10000%. I like Dabo's mindset because it creates accountability for the kids even before getting to Clemson.

Ditto with Dabo. Morals & Integrity involved with commit...

and if you can't do that from day one...then Clemson doesn't need him to play at & graduate from Tigertown.

Go TiGERs!

Yet he doesn't honor when kids commit to other schools. You

can't have it both ways. By pressuring these kids too much they will withhold committing early and take all their trips, which will lead to us losing kids. I'd rather a kid commit to us and still go on other trips, because in his mind he has committed and the trip is more for fun. But going on trips without committing because of pressure from Dabo to commit could easily backfire.

Most of these kids are poor and have never been out of state. These trips are fun. If I were going through the process the way it is now I'd take all 5 of my visits. I'd go to UCLA, USC - the real USC, Texas - Austin is incredible, Miami, and Hawaii. That's 5 great free trips.

No problem with kids taking "fun" trips.......just take the trips first then commit.......

You're full of crap as usual...

It's not a matter of having it both ways, and it's not a matter of pressuring anyone to anything they don't want to do.

Our staff offers the opportunity to commit, and if a kid chooses to do that then he is made to understand the value of that commitment.

If he isn't willing to go that far and wants to visit other schools, then fine, he is free to look at other options. That's okay, but don't tell us you're "committed". If he wants to commit, that's fine too, but we make it very clear - don't do it if you can't follow the rules.

As usual you're making things up as you go along. Your feathers are showing from under your skirt, Faddy.

He's consistent in that a committed kid still taking visits

Jun 6, 2012, 3:40 PM [ in reply to Yet he doesn't honor when kids commit to other schools. You ]

is not really committed. Committed to Clemson or somewhere else. Still taking visits = fair game.

I disagree whole heartedly

All schools are gonna continue to try and recruit players that they r interested in. Of course. Some whether they r committed or not. We all know this. However, I'll say it again, if a kid wants to take all the visits then do so. Just don't commit til after. Saying u r gonna lose the commit by pressuring is, IMO, a flawed argument. Because if they commit to Clemson n take other visits , I'd argue that the pressure put on the recruit from the other schools is much greater a force or temptation. Also, I'd argue that schools visited late in the process, or most recent, might tend to leave a greater impression because it's more recently impressed. I know all won't agree and that's fine, but recruiting a high caliber player is a process that can take months. Having players raising the odds of a late switch really hurts a recruiting school trying to firm up a class. I'd rather lose one or two then to be left with no time to effectively recruit a suitable replacement. I just think Dabos method is perfectly reasonable to maximize ur positions to b filled . And based on his recruiting track record, I think it confirms this way of thinking.
