Student Loan Question
Mar 13, 2022, 5:26 PM
|
|
Planning on starting my Masters during the summer.
I have a teacher forgiveness loan that is in forbearance. It is in forbearance due to the loan amount being under the amount that is forgiven. Therefore, in November when the 5K forgiveness goes into affect the loan will be paid off.
My question to those of you who know is does the SC student loan cover tuition for out of state colleges?
Starting Ohio University with a Masters in Athletic Administration.
If not, for those of you who went out of state for post grad work, how did you finance your tuition?
TIA

Yep, if you are very good or very lucky at dodging bullets, the Military will pay for your education. But even if you get a leg or an arm blown off and you make it, shucks, they will still pay for your education and another leg with some spring in your step. ??

Dept for the school's you want to pretend. My daughter is trying to get her masters too so we have had a lot of contact with many schools FA Dept.
Depending on the state of the school where you plan to attend may have a FA plan if you were to teach in their state. And there are many websites you can to or maybe the Teacher's Assoc. If I can think of anything else I will send you a T Mail.
I wish you lots of luck and will add you to my prayer list.

it's pretty easy to set up at studentloans.gov. The interest rates aren't great, but you can get on an income-based repayment plan which is pretty flexible.

Interest keeps getting applied in forbearance. Only reason I have it is because even with the interest I will still be under the 5k forgiveness. So there's no point to keep paying when it will be paid off on it's own.

Yes, the SC Student Loan Corp will loan you funds to attend an out-of-state institution. However, federal loans (studentloans.gov) are generally more favorable.

is this due to lower interest rates or different repayment plans?

Currently, federal loans for grad students are 5.84% while SC Student Loans' best rate is 6%, so that is about equal. The federal loans are a little more friendly on the back end if you have repayment issues. SC Student Loans will require a credit check, but if you need/want a private educational loan, SC Student Loan Corp is one of the best, nationally. They are non-profit, so their overhead is less than some of the national lenders.

most "masters degrees" in education are designed for those that currently work.... meaning you take one class at a time, normally either online, or a combination of online and meeting occasionally..
Tuition is normally per hour or per class, and you can pay for each class as you take it...
I am working on my admin degree, and take an online class every 5 weeks. I pay for each class before it starts. 18 month program.
I suggest finding an online program. It matters not where your degree is from.

This one is going to be 3 classes at a time from what I gather. All online. Will have to go to Ohio for 4 days.
at over 500 per hour. That's still 1500 per class.

take out debt for things
it's per class dude... find the money... it is MUCH, MUCH, MUCH better than taking out a loan.
if your program is 36 hours... you will spend total of about $18,000.... while I spend a total of about $9500 or so.

You're getting your masters in athletic administration? I've been researching this type of degree for a year and haven't found anything cheaper that is all online with no GRE to get in.
I understand where you are coming from with no debt at all. But not everybody is in the same situations as you are. Some of us have overhanging expenses that we can't avoid. I'm glad you have never been in debt. Some of us see it differently. I'm sure you are also one of those "no credit cards under any circumstances" people. If so good for you. I don't believe in that. But to each his own.

18000.
+4000 per year in salary increase (not getting a job in that field)
Paid off in 4.5 years.
Getting a job in that field will more than double my current salary.

I agree. I can find a cheaper program. Just not in the field that will help me reach my life goal. Other than that, yes I agree there are cheaper programs out there.

All of the HC and AD's that I have know in the Pee Dee and Grand Strand Regions have either a sports management degree or an athletic administration degree.

Not sure the SC Student Loan covers out of state colleges. Might want to double check.
Let me know how that program is, I was thinking about doing that also.

So far it seems legit. No GRE to get in. No tests. No exit exam. Classes are set up as modules. Work on the modules. Submit them. Get the grade. Move on to the next class. Will let you know more once I start the actual classes. Right now I'm just talking out of my ###.
