I've never been one to predict based on a hunch...

Oct 5, 2014, 8:51 AM

But I'm just throwing this out there...i really think Spurrier will leave after this season. His attitude and body language really look like he's burned out. I think he sees that it's probably going to take a couple seasons of hard coaching and recruiting to rebuild that team, and i don't think he's got it in him. He'll be 70 street this season and he doesn't strike me as a Bowden or Paterno type to hold on too long.

I'm not a Spurrier hater, and honestly enjoy him and think he's great for college football. I'm saying this as objectively as i can...I think he thought he had one more shot, that he could win the east and have a punchers shot in the SECCG. But that shot is 2-3 years away at this point. No QB in the program that shows any promise, Davis leaving after this season, no real playmakers on D. I think he's probably starting to think that he can step away and let the program try to get someone in there to keep some recruiting momentum and not leave them in a giant mess.

Just playing a little Sunday morning QB, but i think mentally he's starting to show signs of checking out.

He would be sorely missed***

Clemson Football, the glory days are here!

you are probably close to right...

Spurrier's ego is bigger than anything. I too can't see him being patient enough to rebuild it again. I am not a huge fan of the guy, but he did something with that program that no one in a 100 years ever did.

They should be able to attract a halfway decent coach.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They should, but that is a roll of the dice.

Oct 5, 2014, 9:25 AM

Michigan and Florida can attract good coaches, but look at them right now.

They want to retire and get away from FB. That don't make no sense, why would a coach wanting to retire and get away from FB take a job at usuc. Why would he want to swim through a cesspool for 6/7 years before retiring. That sounds more like an idiot that's a glutton for punishment to me....

Spurrier had left college FB and wasn't really hard pressed for a job but looking when usuc hired him. If he would have just wanted to leave Florida and try somewhere else, I don't think it would have been with usuc.

clemspon5: I suspect you may be correct. All the more reason we need to give him an early going away present by putting a 60 plus on them!!!!

Oct 5, 2014, 9:32 AM

Typical of the petulant, arrogant, little man he is. He has one redeeming value - he's a great football coach. That's it. His reactions and dispositions haven't changed his entire life.
Yes, I am a spurrier hater and hope they guy loses every game, football or otherwise, for the rest of his life. If he leave, I will not miss him and neither will college football.

I have no love for SOS.

Oct 5, 2014, 9:37 AM

He's had his moments of classless behavior but I attribute most of them to his wit being taken wrong by those who resent his success.

He's done something I doubt any other coach could have done. He has made SCAR a place that is attractive to high quality players. IMO, he's one of the best that's ever been. IMO therefor, he will not be replaced but it is not necessary for USuCk to find another as good as SOS. They just need a coach with the ability to compete in the SEC.

They may never be the at the top of football but they'll return to un-embarrassing sooner or later.

Okay, let's at you are right, who do they get? They have shown a willingness to pay big money to get a big name and this level of commitment has proven effective for getting the program on its feet. So who out there has a proven track record, is available and just might be willing to take on the job?

Mack Brown? I would think he is too old for the market.
Former Texas Tech coach? Maybe, but he might still have a taint.
I dint see anyone out there, but I foresaw neither Holtz nor Spurrier so clearly I have no crystal ball.

I keep hearing Mark Dantonio at Michigan State would be at the top of their list. He played football at South Carolina.

If he had good sense, he would pack it in there today. I don't care for Spurrier at all honestly. But I do respect him for his knowledge and what he's done in college FB . With what he has done for the coot program is barely short of a miracle. But to read and hear all the harsh things their fans are saying about him now. If I were him, I wouldn't be there next Saturday. I would give a presser stating that without Respect from the fan base bla, bla, bla, I'm out here.
