Phil petty

Jul 21, 2022, 1:31 PM

Former gamecock QB dead at 43. I played baseball against him as a kid. He was a helluva athlete and a good guy. One of the only gamecocks I ever pulled for. May he Rest In Peace.

RIP Phil… I grew up watching him compete as a kid, while I never ever have rooted for the gamecocks it was cool to see a native South Carolinian succeed.

He was my 1st cousin's wife's 1st cousin. (No Pun intended). It was the only time they went to Usuk games and Bowl games. I hate Carolina but I was happy for them as She and Phil were very close cousins. SAD. I need to reach out to them and pay my condolences.

I remember as a kid if Clemson and Scar played at different times, my dad would turn on the Scar game on the radio and I remember constantly hearing “Shotgun Petty”. Thought that was his name for the longest time lol

Prayers to the family and everyone close to him

RIP Phil. A life cut short as 43 is way to young to pass. Prayers for the family.

Sad to hear...

He was the Gamecock QB 3 of the 4 years I was at Clemson. Even though I cheered hard against him, he seemed very respect-worthy. Praying now for his family and friends... way too early.

That is awful. Way too young obviously. What was the cause?
