Will 2013 be the year of a non-SEC national championship?
Jul 15, 2013, 10:20 AM
|
|
With Stanford, Ohio State, Oregon and Clemson all expected to have stellar seasons, Alabama's relatively weak schedule, and some other good teams like Notre Dame, Boise St and FSU in the top 15 perhaps, could the NCAA deliver the ultimate heartbreak to e$ECpn by having a National Championship game that does not feature a single team from their darling conference in 2013?
Thoughts, reasons, comments. Go.
Will the 2013 National Championship game finally feature two non-SEC schools? [Results]
|
|
Yep. Somebody get e$ECpn some tissues. |
|
Nope. e$ECpn will win again. |

Would it be worth winning if it doesn't feature an SEC team?

Imagine, you would always be known as the team who only won because an SEC team didn't make the game.

And embarrassed yourself by slobbering all over your conference's knob. Typical...every time I tell myself that the coots and the rest of the SEC can't self-love each other any more, they always find a way to prove me wrong. Hunker down, dirtpecker, and get ready to do a lot of staying at home this year.

I have considerations for you.

The spin machines might get you touted into the national picture this year but next year the polls and ESECPiN will have no bearing on the playoff selection committee's choices. Going undefeated, which is more unlikely for an SEC team, will inhibit every teams chances to make the cut.
The machine will not suitup and play on your team and that's where the game is won and lost.
There's only one way for the SEC to go from here.

Was it worth winning when the SEC was crap and Notre Dame

and Army, USC, or Michigan competed for it all the time? OF COURSE it was. What is the difference? Nothing but that the best teams rise to the top (if not put there by the media like that Bama-LSU game that should have never happened). It was worth it when Clemson won it in 1981 knocking off 3 top 10 opponents in UGA, UNC, and Nebraska. It will be worth it this year too.

their conference. I mean, if it's not an article criticising the real Carolina, dook or Miami I don't find it the least bit interesting.
The coots talk down to ACC members and disrespect their one and only conference championship? Is that like cutting off your proverbial nose to spite your face?

No, they haven't been in the ACC for more than 40 years. That is a long time.

Pretty sure most people regret having Oklahoma in that national championship game and not Auburn.

Been said in many ways throughtout history and has often been credited to both Lincoln and Mark Twain. No proof that either ever said it however.

Oops.. Read the question wrong. I dont think a SEC team will win it this year, but I do think the title game will feature a SEC school though..

money into the ncaa/bcs coffers to ensure that even an undeserving sec team will be in the title game (see lsu/bama a few years back). now, if an sec team will win it, that is an entirely different question, one which i will answer with a resounding NO !

Several times during the SEC championship run teams lost games late in the season that allowed the streak to continue. A few years ago 3-4 teams lost that allowed Alabama to work its way back into the picture. It takes talent and luck to get there and mostly its about when you lose.

I often think about "when you lose" as well. Take our 2013 schedule, for instance. Obviously, I want and expect Clemson to win both games, but say we lose one of the games to UGA or USux. Those games bookend our season; which one would hurt worse as our only loss? Assuming they were ranked equally at the time we played them.

You hate on conference pride is bc you dont have any....and that really sucks for you guys bc even when you arent the best it ia good to be a part of something special. Yes I pull for every SEC team when they play out of conference explain to me what is wrong with that? I 100% guarentee that if Clemson were in the SEC (and i do believe you are the right fit) that you would be supporting your conference as well.
And back to the main question, IF the SEC were unseated, Ohio State would bethe only team to do it. Oregons lines arent strong enough to handle Bama and Urban Meyer won in the SEC and knows how to match up. Bama is still #### good though.

Oh, wouldn't that be a problem for Cooter fans?
Ohio State the only team to do it? That statement is "so rich." LOL.

What if there was no country, just fifty states?
Those individual states probably wouldn't be as successful as they are today.

conference pride--kinda like when USuC was an independent. USuC needs their conference for pride but Bama or LSU could care less about it over their own achievements.

I come over here from time to time to see what you are talking about, but rarely post. The only conference pride I have is that we make a lot money from the conference, which potentially equals competiveness on the field. My biggest fear is that if we somehow made it to the NC game, would we lose it and be the guy that ended the SEC streak? You don't want to be that guy.

That's not true at all. My significant other's father is an Alabama graduate, and he was irate at me for pulling for Louisville to beat Vanderbilt in the super regional.
Just because you lack pride in the ACC doesn't mean the fans of the SEC lack pride. I know it's the running joke that the better programs laugh at the weaker programs, but it just isn't true.
