Why is the title so close to SF?

That place is such a dump. I've seen footage on Tucker Carlson Tonight and it looks awful. Needles and feces everywhere. Wish someone would elect someone with some common sense there and fix it. It used to be very nice from what I've heard.

The bright side is that you can get a discounted rate if you bring your own tent and pitch it in tent city!

I think they tried for Detroit, but it was already booked up with a homeless convention.

It’s a great city, but it’s a city, for sure. They have some real problems, but there are also lots and lots of nice parts.

Yeah, san fran is awful. Median income is 160,000 dollars a year. Filled with people working high-income gigs in software, medical technology, etc. Probably the second best place to eat outside of New Orleans. A long history that, unlike our own, doesn't include several hundred years of selling black people kidnapped out of Africa. You definitely should stay away. You might expose them to your fancy redneck notions, and all heck might break loose.

they could keep the needles and feces off the sidewalks. Guess it's poorly run. Would rather have a safe meal in Miami than fear for my safety while enjoying a bread bowl by the wharf.

The crime rate is higher in Anderson, SC than it is in San Francisco. My sister and I were talking about this over the weekend and we decided to do a little research. Very true - higher crime in Anderson, SC than SF......

Crimes are measured in "crime rates" which are the number of crimes / 100,000. That's the common metric. Otherwise you're not comparing the same numbers. 4 crimes in a population of 25,000 would mean a crime rate of 16/100,000.

That's not what I said.....I said crime rates, not crimes. Obviously you cannot compare a city with a population of 35,000 with one of 850,000. You have to use rates, not actual number of crimes.

There are quite a few upscale areas but we did have to navigate the panhandlers every single day outside of the downtown buildings and getting off of the Bart. They supposedly have a beggar ordinance but I don't think it is enforced. It definately is a magnet for unstable and addicted people. But, as has been pointed outm Santa Clara is almost an hour away.

Every large city has these type areas. SF is probably a little worse because of the micro climate the city has. There are great areas to visit such as Muir Woods, Fishermans Wharf, China Town etc. Check them out, you won't be disappointed.

That is absolute nonsense. There's a reason SF is voted the #1 tourist destination in the world year after year. I live 22 miles from SF and have been 100s of times and have never seen anything like Carlson describes.

at least be real with your denial. I agree it is a large city and therefore this kind of stuff occurs, but I can even go to areas of Greenville that are rundown, contain homeless, etc., and you have NEVER seen what was described in SF?
Then you are blind, or chose to be ignorant and drink the California SF kool aide.

the people running it have ruined it. Many companies are canceling their conventions there because of the poo and needles.

From SAN FRANCISCO BUSINESS TIMES, October 15, 2018 ================================================
It has been about four years of cranes and closures, but with the construction of the Moscone Center in its last few weeks, the city is braced for its convention business to hit a record high next year.
More than 1.2 million hotel rooms have been booked for 2019, a sharp increase from the previous high of 1.02 million in 2014. It's a bullish rebound from the past two years.
"It's really a combination of new conventions, rotational conventions and annual conventions," San Francisco Travel Association CEO Joe D'Alessandro said of the boost. "It's really a perfect storm, and the new building has allowed us to accommodate all of this business."
The convention center's $550 million overhaul will increase Moscone's usable event space by more than 25 percent, stretching the facility over 1.5 million square feet of space.
Hotels throughout the city have been preparing for the expanded Moscone Center, and over the past two years have collectively spent hundreds of millions of dollars on renovations, upgrades and new services.
The pipeline for new hotel development is also preparing to churn out 12 new properties, in addition to 10 others currently under construction elsewhere in the Bay Area. According to CBRE Hotel research, the region will add more than 3,000 new rooms in the next two years.

We drove all around the city yesterday. Most of it is well kept and many nice neighbrboods. Did not see the tent city's and needles, but didn't go to the civic center area where it is known to be bad. Around the piers, downtown, Haight Ashbury even was not bad. Chinatown was messy with more litter on the streets but everything is set up all along the sidewalks there.
If you are a music fan, you may recognize the spots!
