When will all of the extra Covid years finish up?

So tired of seeing grown men playing CFB, like that 26 yo in Miami trying to get a 9th season. One if the bigger mistakes the NCAA made was allowing this to happen imo. Can’t wait for it to get back to normal ages playing and competing against each other.

My boss (OcryO St grad) and I talk about this a lot. A 26 year old mindset is completely different than an 18 year old's.
Its def an unfair advantage

Danny Rodriguez was 26 his last season, I don’t think it’s all that bad having a few “older” guys being able to give the 18 year olds some perspective

If a guy does his military service first and then uses his G.I. bill where he can walk on to the football team, I have ZERO problems with that.

I agree but some like the young man at Miami are trying to be a career student and play football for as long as they are still taking classes.
I know he had an injury and some set backs but enough is enough.

If a freshman redshirted in 2020, they would get an extra year on top of that

Just thought of this, if a player who RSed in '20, got a covid year and

then gets an additional medical redshirt...2027!

Again it depends if they haven’t played some of those years.

Here is my understanding...

In 2020, the NCAA granted student athletes the ability to extend their eligibility if their team was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Student athletes normally have five years to play four seasons. The NCAA extended this eligibility to six years to play four seasons.
The bottom line is, each case is different particularly when you throw redshirt years, medical, and hardship waivers into the mix.

And playing in 2020 didn't count as one of the four.

Teams like Ohio State only played 5 “regular season” games.

In typical NCAA fashion...

they created a policy that is ambiguous, unquantified, and subject to a variety of interpretations, so now (for example) you have a QB playing at Notre Dame who is in his 6th year playing collegiately. He's also slightly older than Trevor Lawrence who is in his third season playing in the NFL.

It started with the 2020 class, right? They are all in their 4th seasons. So, 2 more years left? Or maybe 1 more. I don't know.

2026? Seems like if you were a true freshman in 2020 - longest possible

last season would be 2026. Guess it might be possible for 2027 if medical redshirt involved.

2020 - Redshirt 2021 - free COVID year 2022 - Year one 2023 - year two 2023 - year three 2024 - year four
Assuming there are no medical redshirts.

Everyone's Covid Year is 2020. It basically didn't count. Redshirt year could be moved to any of the other 5 years. 2023 only counts once. 2020 - free COVID year 2021 - Redshirt 2022 - Year one 2023 - year two 2024 - year three 2025 - year four

My daughter plays D3 soccer. In 2020 she was a freshman and played in every game. but there was no conference tournament nor NCAA tournament that year. Basically, the NCAA said that year doesn’t count. So she played in 21, 22 & 23, they’re still playing right now. She told me about 6 weeks ago that she wasn’t tired of soccer and that she still wanted to play, but that she knew it was too expensive to continue. An NCAA athletic career at any level is a one shot deal. So she’ll be playing for a 5th year now. She’ll graduate in December, 4.0 GPA, Pre-Dental. She’ll work towards a Masters degree next year and continue studying for the Dental School Entry Exam.
BTW, I just found out about an hour ago that she was voted Conference Defensive Player of the Year. 😎
We host 1st round of NCAA Tournament on Saturday.
