Terrible head coach. Bad OC.

I saw him at my sons baseball game 3 years ago. I said hello and go tigers and he ignored me. Odd personality. Disaster in Charlottesville

Crazy that we somehow overcame that to win a ship. Maybe he wasn't that bad or we just got lucky?

Next topic. I hope he has success but we need to focus on CU

We had talent. It’s really not hard to coach when the joes are just good. We were loaded. But we also saw after a few years that the offense never changed and defenses caught on to what we wanted to do.

We had a ridiculous amount of offensive talent in 2018. All of our skill players are now starting the NFL and several are NFL stars. Our offensive line, while not filled with NFL players, was a cohesive unit that played hard and was the most experienced line in the country. It doesn't take an offensive genius to have success with Trevor throwing to Tee, Justyn, and Hunter....

He helped recruit some of that talent. College football has changed so much it’s hard to build a program that has been average for many years.

It’s possible this outside forces could affect the success of Clemson football. Especially if players form a union.

Only if he does something like take over the Paw Journey because Davis retires. I don't want him as a coach, maybe analyst.

Then we got to hope that Virginia wins some games, so he doesn’t get fired.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I dont understand how you can say good OC

3

Sep 2, 2023, 11:10 PM

Virginia was historically bad on offense last year. Keep in mind Tony didn’t replace a coach that was fired. That coach quit.

They had good offenses under prior coach. Heck the QB transferred after 1 year under Eilliot. That kid was a #### good QB and he showed it last night for Louisville.

Time to move on from saying Elliot was a good OC. He had a generational talent on that team that made him look great. You can’t argue that our stats fell off year over year. TL single-handedly overcame a bad OC. The play calling showed itself in the LSU ship game.

Arguing he's a good OC is asinine. Our offensive dropped significantly the second Jeff walked out the door. Elliot is a large part of the blame for the last two seasons. He was a good recruiter, but he's also a terrible playcaller. He torpedoed what was a great UVA offense.

Re: Tony Elliot is a bad coach

So weird that he'd lie about that. Not a Christian move, especially when no one cares if he was offered or not. He interviewed, but no one would have chosen Elliot over a proven head coach from UCF. And Elliot would have never turned down Tennessee if he had the offer. Tennessee is a sleeping giant in football. High expectations, but high pay, an incredibly high ceiling, donors willing to buy in and pay for NIL, the largest fan base in the Southeast, and a bit lower expectations (at least to start) than the other SEC schools. People want to point at the NCAA punishment, but that would have given Elliot even more leeway as he set up his system.

He just was rejected, lied about it, and didn't expect to get called out.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Tony lied about nothing: he only said that he assessed

Sep 3, 2023, 5:13 PM

the environment at Tennessee as being one he wasn't really interested in.

It makes no sense to believe he wouldn't be thinking about a job environment where he was interviewing, and assessing its fit. No sense at all.

The UT AD took an opportunity to jump the shark, and try to set himself and Heupel up as "above the ACC, et al".

The SEC arrogance is never-ending, and quite frankly, an incredibly poor representation of intercollegiate sportsmanship.

I'm not personally a fan of TE as a HC, but this narrative is beyond ridiculous. Reynolds is a better commenter than this as well....

He’s also a minority which helps.

I agree that his coaching leaves a lot to be desired.

That's quite a leap from "someone didn't talk to me at a kid's sporting event" to "he's bad at his job and has an odd personality." If this was three years ago none of were talking to strangers because we were still getting used to having to mask up to go anywhere. Sorry you had a bad day.

Ok, so that is what I was thinking too. For awhile I was like "Was there a 2nd football-related shooting?"

I like Tony, but it seems odd that he felt compelled to remind the world about it.

Re: Tony Elliot is a bad coach

Sep 3, 2023, 5:58 PM

I like Tony but he made a huge mistake in the beginning of firing the OC and changing the O scheme. They had a very good offense but all of them lost it when he done that. He should have focused on the defense his first couple years as they had done. He set their program back a few years as they had a lot of players bail out after he did that. Had a little too much arrogance of he knows best. He had set the program back. Hopefully he can build it back,

shooting, not just on campus, but to three of his players BY another player.

I wish him well, and I wish he didn't have to deal with that. Probably still hard to get kids' focus after something that happens that is much bigger than football. He'll get a little or a lot of slack just for handling that. And he should. Hope he learns a lot, but I'm sure he already has, too...
