When is Morris going to cash in on all that TEXAS talent??

I assume that he is out on the road during the offseason doing recruiting like all the other coaches (especially at his salary!). Surely he has enough connections from the Austin area that they don't all to to UT or A&M...heck the WF QB is from his town. At least Venables has one recruit to his name in Kellen Jones. BV needs to load up his wagon with some big ole farm boys & get them down here!

Texas talent is overated

Just because the thre biggest recruiy states just so happen to be the biggest states (Cali, Fla, TX) doesnt mean the numbers match up.
when i first moved here all I heard was Texas High School football was all that. So I went to a few games and you know what? NOTHING was different abot them than a good ole game In South Carolina. True their numbers are up per capita, but we bring some players too. Today there is a lot of talent everywhere. Players are bigger faster stronger. As long as we can hold our presice in the Jacksonville area we will be okay. That started with Terrance Flagler and recently CJ. Where was Gaines from? Duanne Alan....the Carolinas, and lately we have been all over Ga.
Plus its harder to get a kid to travel too far from home.

You sir are a homer if you truly believe this. Look at the rosters of NFL teams if you truly believe this, especially the QB position.

Texas has more players in the NFL, but SC has more players in the NFL per capita.

That's true, although they are fairly close, but that doesn't mean Texas talent is overrated To put it in a little perspective, there's more people in Houston than the entire state of SC.
On the original subject though, I don't think Morris ever pulls many out of Texas based on distance, and options within the state and neighboring states like Louisiana and Oklahoma. He'll maybe pull 1 a year, but it's not going to have that much of an impact.

Note the date of the article...and the 650-member marching band. I didn't see the following in any state until I arrived in Texas... and this will be the 5th largest... interesting write-up. I grew-up in SC, arrived in Texas, saw my first high school stadium here, and wondered what college, until I saw the sign. LOL ----------------------------------------------- excerpt from the article...
Texas' $60 Million High School Football Stadium
by Morgan Smith May 27, 2010
Drive north of Dallas on Highway 75 and after about 25 miles you'll find Allen, where a suburb that grew up in the boom of the late-'90s telecommunications juggernaut is just entering its prime. Down a road framed by tennis courts and endless parking lots, on the other side of a traffic circle, is an imposing red brick school building that dominates an otherwise bleached landscape of oatmeal-colored sidewalk, gray pavement and drab green athletic fields. On a day near the end of the school year, the heat of midsummer is already in the air, interrupted only briefly by gusts of wind that blow forcefully across the flat North Texas terrain of Collin County.
This is Allen High School, home of the Eagles and a study in bigness: a 5,000-student campus, with a 650-member marching band, the nation’s largest, supporting a football team that draws 8,000 fans to away games. And now — the pinnacle of the community’s collection of suburban spoils — Allen will break ground on an 18,000-seat palace of a stadium. Though only the fifth-largest high school football stadium in Texas, it’s the largest that will be occupied by a single team. Of course, it carries a big price tag: $60 million, approved as part of a $120 million bond initiative that also includes new performing arts and transportation service centers. Voters approved the measure 63 percent to 37 percent in 2009, a year after the Eagles won their first state football championship.

His offensive style will bring in more pipeline talent...

...than his connections with Texas could ever do. I have no idea about his recruiting acumen, but his philosophy will draw in extreme skill position talent. I'd be (and am) hoping proven recruiter Venables gets us in on a broader range of talent outside of what Morris' style brings in by default. Venables, Dabo and Scott have proven themselves to be big time closers for their pipeline talent and will theoretically leverage this to the potentially new areas of recruiting that Venables hopefully opens at least in the short term

2014 Texas DBs
Oct 25, 2012, 12:49 AM

Just looking at Scout and I cant always go by Scout because I think they are the worst recruiting service, but Texas is loaded with secondary talent for the 2014 class.
There are a few 5 star DBs and 6 or 7 out of the top 10 DBs are from the state of Texas.
I am hoping that Dylan Sumner Gardner can bring along a friend or two with him to Clemson to join him in the secondary.
