the upcoming 12 team Playoffs, it could get weird. From article I read:

"The new 12-team College Football Playoff field will include the six highest-ranked conference champions, which will receive automatic bids. The top four teams will receive a first-round bye to the quarterfinals.

The six highest-ranked teams remaining will round out the 12-team format."

SIX highest ranked conference champions? That is where it could get weird. When that language was put together, there were still actually FIVE "Power Five" conferences. Now, the PAC-12 is the PAC-TWO, and the future of that entity is nebulous at best. The ACC is on life support. The only conferences at real good "Health" are the BIG and the SEC. Even the Big 12 is in a state of major flux, with the losses of Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC. They added warm bodies to replace them, but the quality is not the same.

And given that the ESPNs and FOX's of the world will now be heavily lobbying for teams from their pet two conferences to be high up the rankings to get those six coveted AT LARGE berths in the Playoffs, you could actually see a scenario where that sixth conference champion isn't even RANKED in the Top 25!

With "The Committee" coming out with the rankings that I assume will determine these Playoff berths, with so many up now for grabs, there will be stupendous opportunities for good old Amurican Graft and Corruption on a scale as has not been seen since the halcyon Pork Barrel Political Days of Yore and Mine.

That was the initial plan, which would basically be auto bids for the 5 P5 champs, plus the highest ranked non P5 champ and 6 at-large. But I believe they changed it with the conference realignments to be the top 5 Conf champs and 7 at-large. No auto bids for conf champs and conf must have min 8 teams to be eligible.

What you say is why Ive always said an 8 team playoff made more sense

• The 5 conference champions
• The highest ranked team from the other conferences (Liberty University-this Year)
• 2 at large teams

Perfect scenario. But look at the rankings prior to the bowl games and tell me if that actually is the case. Like I said in another post; this will be the SEC invitational. They will have no less than six teams in every year. This format is what ESECPN wanted all along;and people really believe it will be fair?
