Surround it in a 10 ft cubicle of bullet resistant glass that can be removed on game days. Also put cameras and a motion sensing alarms around it.

Silent alarm so that the thugs will be caught and made example of. We shouldn't have to hide what we have for our fans to enjoy bc of thugs. Moving only sends them to destroying something else that would be harder to protect. Silent alarm it, and have the signal sent to campus police to their cell phone, their office land line, and to their police cars and hand held radio's. Catch them and make an example out of them. That way them or anybody else won't know what else is hook to a silent alarm. Now we will have to have campus police with enough nuts to approach the thugs. If they don't, I guess we will have to hide everything on campus.
Hire me, I promise, they will end up in jail or at the morgue, and that choice will be theirs....

Why does it have to be hidden? Can't be raised during the day.

During the off season I would def store it somewhere else. It'll probably be fine leaving it on The Hill during football season. But after 2 times now, during the off season....it has to be out of sight.

May have been mentioned last time but build an Underground lift like a Rock concert trap floor. During the day it is raised, at night past a certain time it lowers into ground. Game day it rises with smoke coming from the ground as the team buses arrive and hearing coach Howard audio right before they run down the hill.

Place it randomly in a group of styrofoam identicals that are situated over hydraulic powered , piston-actuated platforms and when the perpetrators step past a trigger lights and music begin and they are trapped in a life size game of " Whack-a-Mole ". They don't of course , get to keep the real rock , but they are duly entertained until the authorities arrive.

Have it lit 24/7 have security cameras on it and sensors turned on at a certain time that if the rock is touched an audible alarm goes off. If they spend some of that money they collect on parking tickets they could have a good alarm system. I think removing the Rock except for game day is allowing the asswipes to win

Make the gates where you cannot put your hands or anything else through them. If they do, have an electric current just strong enough to give them a good jolt, and put them on their rear in the street. I know, you would probably be looking at a lawsuit for the electric current but they would think twice before doing it again. Also have an alarm that would notify all law enforcement on campus with enough cameras inside and outside to get good photos of the idiots along with a powder that would explode like what they use in banks and color them a bright orange, make it florescent and not come off for days.

I liked the rising-out-of-the-ground idea. Would protect it and would add do the entrance drama.

You can bring it up for people to see and take pics with it, but only under official supervision. Also, it would just add to the game day experience, "the raising of the rock."

I voted to store it underground on site but...

having a ceremony to show it rising from the ground is wrong. The players, coaches and fans are what's important not The Rock. It's a tool, as precious as it is to us it's just a tool and shouldn't be presented as an object of worship.
Just bring it up on gameday and during times when fans are invited to a function at The Valley.

I completely disagree with you. Yes the players and coaches are important but so is Clemson. And that "tool" represents everything that is Clemson. That "tool" is Clemson. Players and coaches come and go and it's fun to support them while they're here and after but the players and coaches are no more important than that "tool" IMO.

Unless there's a really good explanation, some sort of discipline for the campus police who were on duty at the time would be a start.
There are bright lights on the rock, a camera pointed right on it, and sensors on the case that trigger an alarm in the station, which is, um, pretty much right there.
So what happened? Why did construction workers- not the police- discover the vandalism in the morning?

Who is it going to be? Who's training them?

And who's paying them? 8,760 hours in a year. Assuming a minimum of $10/hour that's $80,760 per year plus training costs for only one person.

1 person with a gun should be able to protect it. Doesn't have to be the same person all 8760 hours though. Probably should let him or her have a nap on occasion.

Right, but the hours still have to be manned. Plus benefits etc. And the idea of an armed guard in that area at all times seems unattractive. I just think this to be impractical when a one time payment of 80-100k could solve the secruity problem.
