I'm gonna learn ya something . We call them lines . Ropes are for cowboys and kidnappers . Now , to answer ....
They have to be a certain breaking strength because we put a lot of HP on them , and if they part then men can be seriously injured or killed . So big lines = Safety first .

Temporally And returned later & boat is floating out beyond your reach..and you watch it float away as you swim for it?!

Sadly & embarrassingly Happened to me yesterday on island with GF ..and had to summon for help from passing boating couple..

Who helped get us back to boat finally..after she threw 100 foot rope (uh Line) to me with flotation device attached to one end But not Unattached at her end to the boat!

All worked out & I caught h*ll from GF...rightfully so!!

In the post I'm replying to, is the white ship on the right a tug? It's a huge tug if so.

Also on your boat, what are the four levels of decks? Top is cockpit, next is living quarters?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: #### sailors and their political correctness...............***

Aug 17, 2015, 10:30 AM

@Chucktown :
Yes , that is a tug , and an odd looking one at that . She is named the Yemitzes , she was built in the 50s and operated in Greek waters . She came across the pond in the 80s and has worked for Henry Marine in NYC ever since .
Technically we have 5 decks , including the lowere engine room . The top is the wheelhouse , next 2 are all berthing areas and the head/shower , and the bottom deck is the galley , and another head as well as the upper engine room .
