What happened to the real Clemson Tiger?

Dec 9, 2016, 1:07 PM

Life time Tiger - will be 78 in March asking a question concerning the original Clemson Tiger. I went to Clemson 1957-58 year and then joined the Air Force. At that time we had the Bengal Tiger at the football games. I have my grandson with me now and was explaining some things about the Paw and got to wondering what happened to the Tiger.

If anyone knows, please post a reply.

Thanks in advance and GO TIGERS!

We also have a vet school and one of the enclosures in the world. However, I recently talked to a guy in the vet school about it and it was interesting conversation. Apparently people with tigers fall over themselves to try and their tiger to be the next Mike. The last Mike was almost a tiger that someone privately own that appeared to be on the up and up but wasn't legal after a lot of digging. We decided against that one and had we not, the guy over the program would have been arrested and the tiger seized at the airport. Pretty interesting.

At Clemson which is all about tiger conservation. They want to get private tiger ownership banned.

She went to a conference in India with representatives from all of the tiger countries. Everyone hated China there because they cause most of the issues

to get rid of the tiger due to pressure from the townspeople of Clemson who did not feel it was safe to have a tiger that close to the town.

His names was Happy and was originally purchased by an Esso station owner somewhere in the Piedmont. That was back when they had the "Happy Motoring" campaign and the "Put a Tiger in Your Tank" campaign.

He lived out his final years in a glass cage at the Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia. (He was not able to be placed in the open area where the rest of the tigers are kept, I think because he was not born in the wild. He was still there when I moved to Columbia back in 1977. I remember seeing that he had passed away some years back.

Dang I learn so much on this website! Better than the newspaper! I like it when other school fans post intersesting information like the fan from LSU. Very interesting.
