The difficulties of traveling on I-85! From the state line to the Clemson area. This season will be no different because the work is still in progress. For several years now I have used highway 11 and traveled to Clemson thru this scenic drive. There is almost no difference in time on the road and it perhaps is much safer. No big Semis to be concerned with and the drive along the mountains and thru the horse country is very scenic. The only downside is you have to be alert for bike riders! Check your maps and see if this is an option for you. Much, much less stressful

Can’t help you there . Parts of the upstate are very beautiful. I grew up in Spartanburg County in the 40s and 50s and it was nothing but textile mills and farm land. Still a lot of small villages but they have changed considerably since I was a small lad. The area around Landrum
And Tryon and the Glassy Mountains is really impressive. Apparently our neighbors from the North have become fond of it too! The equestrian center is an unbelievable addition to the upstate. If you are into horses it’s a must see. Site of the equestrian Olympics a few years ago.

Hey Forest Tiger my dad grew up in that area, maybe a little before you - did you know any Stewarts from up there?

I remember talking with you about this subject a couple of years ago. I haven't used 85 since then. I play with the route several times a year but usually go to Rutherfordton and wiggle my way down to Six Mile and come in on 133 which puts me right at the lot I park in. I'm sure it is farther in miles but real close in time. No white knuckle time for me!!

That’s the way that I go also. I 85 will drive a sane man nuts … if he survives the drive !

321 to 55 to 5 to 29 is a good way to get from the Charlotte- Rock Hill area to Hwy 11

I have family in Lake Wylie and I never get on 85 anymore coming from Spartanburg

I hate #### bicyclists on country roads. Out in the country where I live they take over the two lane roads in packs. Most of those granola eaters bring their bikes from several cities over. They have no fear of a 4 wheel motor vehicle going between 45-60 mph.

Clemson doesn't care about basketball....as evidenced by Brown-L getting 14 years.

Thanks a lot for giving away my closely held secret. For almost 60 years i've made my way to Clemson from Rutherford Co. NC through Landrum to Hwy 11. Now that you've let the cat out of the bag, Hwy 11 will be as crowded as I-85.
