now. It's a decision to fund golf, tennis, rowing..... Softball actually ends up on tv occasionally - an indicator that someone may, just possibly watch it. May......

you mean like somebody watches or cares about rowing? not many rowing high school programs around the area. softball team would be more expensive but a much better fit.

Dropping womens basketball would save us some bucks. And we could at least field a competitive team in softball.,

We could

We would be the laughing stock of NCAA softball because of the handicap we would give ourselves with a temporary fence in the outfield, the baseball pitching mound in the infield, and the temporary wall we are going to have to install behind homeplate every game so that the backstop fits within NCAA guidelines.
Just because both are played on the same type field doesn't mean they are the same.

Yea I know that and that is what my school did every week. It's not that hard to rebuild a mound and slide a temp wall out. If you look at most games on TV you could see the field is used for other sports.

lol. Other ACC teams have them. You gonna tell me these other schools make more money than us????? Its not about the money, just not sure what its about. Rowing can go by the wayside and make up for it with softball.

Provides us with the cheapest way to offset the 85 scholarships that football uses and allows us to meet Title IX guidelines. Other than the boathouse we don;t have to fund a facility and upkeep for rowing.

Rowing has more scholarships than softball and that helps meet Title IX requirements. Also, rowing does not require Clemson to build and maintain a stadium.

If we sell 82k tickets and everybody buys at least one Coke that means we will make a little over $500k that way each football season.
So we will have enough to pay for a stadium at today's prices in 20 years.

If all 82k fans bought one drink that would be $82k per game. Times seven home games that's not quite $575k a year.

Looks like the missing logos are Duke, Wake, Miami, and Clemson.
And I agree that we should have softball. Softball is pretty big in the area from what I understand. It would seem to be pretty easy to recruit. Of course, swimming is also huge in the area (ie, SAIL), and I think we just cut the swim team?

It's a more popular sport, a faster growing sport, and would not be nearly as expensive. Riggs Field would be a perfect venue.

if we are going to add a sport this is the one to add and for the reason you mentioned. We wouldn't have to spend a dime on facilities.

if Clemson started softball, it would be required to build a facility that is comparable to Doug Kingsmore Stadium. That ain't happening.
You may see lacrosse and field hockey in the next few years using Riggs Field as a home stadium.

Softball is getting very big these days. Im actually a coach and my daughter plays. Her dream is to play for Clemson but she can't. Now is the time for CU to start a program. It's only getting bigger and more exciting than baseball. JS

that much talent that would make a difference at the major college level in SC. We are getting there, but we aren't there yet. Too many youth leagues hung on to slow pitch for far too long in this state so we are behind others states by probably 10-15 years.
