This is true, Venables is a very good coach, I hope he does an awesome job at Oklahoma, he loves that school with his history of coaching there.
Oklahoma will always be a top blue blood program with a rich football history! It was the kind of job you never turn down. I love to see him doing the things that Dabo did to change our program, it’s great for the kids.
I also hope Tony Elliott does well too, he’s a very good coach too.

Then, I hope we beat them...but not so much as to be that big of an embarrassment! lol.

Will he be able to steal signals for a half decade before being found out ? Then yes Oklahoma will do well. Will he get exposed and everyone will realize why he didn’t accept an offer before now? Yes that’s possible too.

I wish Coach V all the success in the world. I think we would all jump to go to our dream job especially if it was a promotion.

I'd jump for a lot of jobs, dream or not, if it came with a 280% raise.

I'll always be grateful for what Brent Venables did for Clemson.

the D. If not, then his first couple of years might be a little rocky and cause his seat to warm up.

That Defense can only go in one direction

and it's not worse.
As far as turning it into a top 10 Defense like he had at Clemson, that'll probably take 2-3 years before they're inside the top 10. You can't just flip a switch and make guys 1) understand the entire playbook, 2) get them physically strong enough and 3) mentally tough enough & 4) have the depth needed.
It takes most players at least 1-2 full years to totally grasp the playbook. Then, it takes another 2-3 years of continued bar raising from year to year to get them to play with the edge required to be a top 10 defense and then it's going to take a few recruiting classes to also build the depth needed.
I never forget the difference in our defense the 1st game of BV career (Auburn), then how they were towards the end of the season, but especially that jump they made from the SC game to the LSU game. They played at an unbelievable level vs LSU compared to what we saw during the season. It was then, I knew BV was the real deal and we were headed for great things.

Sounds like a pretty realistic take. Nothing but respect for BV.

Dude just bided his time, kicked butt, then took one of the best jobs in college football, which looks even better today. OU is sitting pretty with NIL and the SEC.

Definitely! Coach Venables was not going to a school where he could not achieve a high level of success--turned down several. Being selective paid dividends. Two or three years ago he was asked why he stayed at Clemson so long--his reply was that he liked to win.

I watched the interview. He was asked a question, "How long will it take to get Oklahoma back to the dominant defensive teams we used to have?" (paraphrased)
He went on a long rambling answer. Included in his answer was the statement made in the original post in this thread. It was in now way meant to be a slap or dig at Clemson. He was pointing out that things take time. He was pointing out that a coach can't just walk into a room, flip a switch and the defense instantly has drastic improvement.

Speaking of taking time, it might take decades to get FSU back from the mess that Dumbo Fisher left it in. I hope you get there, but OU and Venables does not. Screw OU.
