Yea, have to agree. Add in the ENORMOUS money Dabo and others are making contributes to the self created expectations. Heavy is the head that wears the crown.

Not only the bottom of barrel, he had to be scraped off the bottom to know he was down there. He is only following up on what most has said, but that's what the bottom of the barrel does, right, come along after most have had their say. Dabo did create this situation, but it's the situation that Tiger nation wanted bc these situations only come when a team has been winning at the highest level, and we're supposed to feel chitty when we don't hit the mark in a season bc that is what we've grown use to!!!

Agreed Colbert. GM is annoying at times but here he is spot on.
Love me some CDS....but "almost never" a good idea to bring up fans. I'll say this once again...not that CLEM doesn't have some bad fans...all teams do...but overall....Clemson fans are the BEST of the BEST...and I know b/c I've personally witnessed it throughout the ACC and SEC over many decades. It's just best to bite your tongue and move on. As BV rightfully once told a player..."less is more." Sage advice for many things in life...

Do y’all even listen to what Dabo says? Do you even know who He is? What Dabo said is the absolute truth! What Dabo has said from the beginning is that He wants the program to be consistent and if you do that then maybe just maybe every so often you will have a special year! He has said that since his first press conference and has never wavered! He never once promised perfection every year or any year! He has always said winning is hard and enjoy every one you get! But what y’all want is to win every game by 100 and never let the other team score and if that’s not what happens then somebody needs to be fired because you deserve a win!!

Dabo needed to bring up Clemson fans. There are tons of entitled cry babies that call themselves fans. If anyone was offended by it then it was definitely meant fir you. Truth hurts!!

This is the same guy that said "if you want to have fun, you go to Clemson. If you want to win championships, you go to Alabama."
It's about time he makes some sense. Maybe 44 to 16 smacked some sense into him.

The Amazon river runs for thousands of miles. At some points it runs through areas of the rain forest that are almost untouched and have been barely explored. Because of the porous limestone in these areas, the river water leaks through the stone and travels deep into the earth, and forms underground pools almost a mile below the surface. Over thousands of years, small blind transparent fish have lived and evolved in these pools. These fish have never seen the sun or surface and have never been seen by the human eye.
These fish care more about what Greg McElroy says or thinks than I do

What ever picture you are trying to paint, I suspect most fans wouldn’t disagree with him. On one hand we do expect a lot. In other words if Dabo were to tell me that what we saw the last two years is as good as it’s going to get then I would believe it or not be ready to move on. However, unlike you and those who are unreasonably hard on Dabos performance, I will also say that our bottom in the last two years is a lot higher than most peoples highs and as long as he makes improvement then I’ll continue to trust his leadership.

McElroy gets it largely correct. I salute him for sensibly recognizing the obvious. Many sports analysts fail to recognize the obvious.
That said I think he largely misses the boat on the 'pressure' on Dabo Swinney. I think the pressure that Dabo puts on himself is about the only real pressure on Coach Swinney.
Is there significant fan pressure on Dabo? I don't think so. I would guess 60K of the 70K seats sold by Clemson are to fans who respect, admire and love nearly everything about Dabo Swinney I think most all of us, me included have been spoiled by our run at the very top. But I also think most of those long term fans know the real, long term score on Coach Swinney. Is there Clemson administration pressure on Dabo Swinney? NO, there is not. Is there media pressure on Dabo? Yea, there is some. But I'd bet dollars to donuts that media pressure is mostly motivational. Dabo is a smart guy. I think he has the score figured out fairly closely.
What is the worst that can happen for Clemson and Coach Swinney? I'd say he could become the Kirk Ferentz of Clemson football. He could coach 20 more years, win 60% of the rest of his games and always enjoy the support of Clemson University and Tiger fans. That is the worst case.
I see a brighter future than Ferentz like success for Coach Swinney.
Go Tigers!!

"Best is yet to come" - thought that was used a bit too much

You've won a couple of CFP championships, rattled off X number of ACC champioinships, etc etc.
And you keep/kept saying "best is yet to come". You've got a lot of irrational fanatics out there that you now have believing you are going to exceed the accomplishments already completed out on the field.
Like maybe you are going to win back to back CFP or three out of four.
Maybe your "best is yet to come" was about other aspects of the program, but the masses are only thinking about wins Dabo. And CFP wins at that.
I give "best is yet to come" as tagline/branding fail.
"All In" while derivative, was effective though. a +1 for that.

So you think he is always talking about football with that statement?
I think he is sometimes, but I also think he’s talking about when our work here on earth is done.
Living with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will definitely be the “best of the best”! ✝️❤️🎉

I’m happy that we have a coach that has set a high standard at Clemson and I am happy that we have a fan base that expects a high standard. It’s the mark of a good program that, when we have a down year, that the heat goes up. Did we leave something on the table last year? Yes. But are we strong enough to move forward and appreciate greatness? Yes!

Greg’s comments about expectations being Dabo’s fault seem poorly thought out and the delivery is even worse. Every coach wants their team to be their best, play their best, achieve their goals etc. You hear that in every press conference. That does not set expectations.
Winning! That sets expectations. Natty’s, beating the breaks off the likes of Bama and other top tier programs. 15-0 seasons. That’s where expectations come from.
I do wish Dabo wouldn’t let the fans get in his head though. He would hear the same at any other tradition rich program. Great seasons get you paid, bring you talent, build awesome facilities etc. That being said, you can’t take a break from winning in CFB. 2018 is yesterdays news now. Time to to get the train rolling again.
Go Tigers!

I couldn't give two craps what McElroy or any of the other talking heads on espn have to say. He's just a washed up college QB who had it easy because of the NFL talent around him - not that he was anything great! Besides, aside from eSECpn, who asked him for his opinion???
