All of those you mentioned are incredibly mouthy

and in my experience, Maryland fans more closely resemble the Syracuse fans than the others.
Georgia fans don't discriminate; they tend to hate everyone equally and treat all non-UGa fans poorly, but that's primarily because most of them are a bunch of uneducated Georgia red necks who have never spent a day in any college classroom let alone a classroom on the Georgia campus.
While $CU fans are also incredibly mouthy, they are generally pretty harmless. They are known more for being a bunch of deluded ignorant trailer dwelling inbred $EC coat tail riders than anything else.
I'd als add NC State fans that that list as well.

Is nobody seriously talking about GT?

I've been to each of the old ACC schools over the past six years, and without a DOUBT my least favorite place to go is Atlanta. GT fans are absolutely the scum of the Eart, IMO. I, in all honesty, prefer Columbia to Atlanta. Three trips to each place in those six year, and it's not even a remotely close decision.

I can't talk about the trash of Clemson's opponents without mentioning the saints, so to speak.
Two years ago, when I was at Virginia Tech, I was blown away by how nice the majority of them were. People were waving as we drove onto the campus (on a bus heavily decked out in Clemson signs), and multiple people came up to welcome us and wish us a pleasant stay. Even after we trashed them in the game, they were still pretty gracious afterwards. I'd love to go back next time we play up there.

"Tulane and Wagner will get the offense clicking so it will all come together against Clemson. I expect a sold out Dome and the loudest game Clemson will ever play in."
I literally spit my drink out laughing when I read that.

if they lose to Penn St. or to Northwestern to start the year, are they really going to sell it out and get crazy? I mean, the place might be filled with orange, but if Clemson beats Georgia and NC St. to start the season, you might have to look a little harder to see the purple and white on about half of those fans' shirts.

The dome should be sold out for Clemson. It's the best team to play at the dome in many years, it's our first year in the ACC which is providing a lot of excitement, and Clemson has a good rep for traveling. It should be a great event. Perhaps more so for SU than Clemson, but there is great excitement within the SU football fan community for the move to the ACC. I've lived in Virginia for most of my life and normally have purchased single game tickets for a few games but I've bought season tickets this year to support the move to the ACC. I live closer to most ACC schools than SU and intend to go to as many road games as I can, including Death Valley. I can't imagine a better place to participate in a college football game. At least we'll all be in orange and that has to be a good thing. Most of us are very fond of Clemson and will root for you in every game except for ours. I guess you can tell I'm excited but the only way for a program to get better is to play good programs and you clearly qualify. This is a great day for Syracuse.

Please don't judge SU fans by Syracuse.com comments. It's the worst site to chat with knowledgeable SU fans. It seems to attract the worst of the worst. Syracusefan.com is our best fan site. Please visit. We're excited to be in the ACC with programs possessing great tradition and want to compete with the likes of Clemson. While I appreciate the enthusiasm of Dyshawn Davis, Clemson should be a contender for the national championship next year and a great test for our new coaching staff. We'll have a good running game, but we'll feature a new starter at QB and many new starters on both sides of the ball. If you come to the dome this year, please tailgate with us. There are many passionate & knowledgeable SU fans who would love to talk football with Clemson fans. We hope the move to the ACC will continue the general program improvement we've had over the past few years and lead to consistently good competition for our new ACC partners. There may be a lot of cocky SU fans, but there are a lot of good football fans at Syracuse as well.

Two questions for you, 'Cuse fan...
Jul 1, 2013, 2:50 PM
[ in reply to SU fan here ] |

1. What are the favorite delicacies enjoyed at your tailgates?
2. Why do upstate NY'ers always pronounce it "Sarah-Cuse"?
Also, while I am very confident in our team this year, Syracuse worries me b/c our history is not good playing teams on the road that we are not familiar with.

Hofmann's hot dogs are a popular local item. They were a local brand that is now national. There will be many varieties available. Spiedie's are popular too, i.e. marinated meat served in shish-kabob fashion. It's a local thing in the area south of Syracuse but is very popular. I have a buddy that makes a great "chicken liver wrapped in bacon" appetizer. It can be chilly in Syracuse in the fall, especially late in the fall, so hot things are in vogue. Chili, BBQ, Buffalo wings, and various kinds of sausage are common. Early October is beautiful in Syracuse so the Clemson tailgate should be great as long as it doesn't rain. Snow is possible from the end of October on so November games are iffy for tailgating.
I'm not sure why upstaters pronounce Syracuse that way. Perhaps it's the Canadian influence. I haven't lived in Syracuse for 25+ years but still say "eh?" a lot. I pronounce it Seeracuse but think I always have. Y'all is uncommon upstate, but there are many upstate NY transplants in the south that find it an important term in daily usage. I try to annoy most of my lifelong upstater friends with a good supply of Y'all's so you should find it amusing sport.
I'm optimistic that we'll be bowling again this year and expect a good showing against Clemson, but it will take an extraordinary performance and good bounces for us to scare you. We'll have a good running game and the defense will be stout, but the coaching staff is new and we still don't know who our starting QB will be. We have a lot of new starters so we're more hopeful than confident. Clemson will be a big game for us and I expect the team and crowd to come out fired up, but you should be heavily favored. I hope we can become more competitive recruiting, but we're not there yet. In general, you should have better players.
The dome isn't air conditioned, ironic for a place named after an air-conditioning company, so it can get very warm inside when full. That can be an issue for teams that aren't used to heat and humidity, but don't see that as an advantage with Clemson. Northern teams can have conditioning issues and cramping that they don't normally have in outdoor stadiums. Clemson, not so much. Hope to see you there.

they're solid on defense, but how will they score?

I'm just not sure they're going to have all that much success on offense this year without Nassib and with a new coach. My guess is they'll be a lot like what Maryland would've been like last year had they not lost their top 4 QBs.

Not so worried about their offense, but their D could be fairly decent.
