every system has a "god" of it's system. Every single one. It may not be a traditionally-defined, supernatural god, but every system has it's bedrock principle or fundamental value that is it's basic non-negotiable. Neutrality is a myth. There is no neutrality. There cannot be. The folks that have been telling us for decades that we need to set aside moral and religious norms in favor of "neutral common ground," have never identified anything that fills that category that isn't some form of secular humanistic religion substitute. That's b/c neutrality is a myth. The idea of the separation of government and religion was never in the cards. Church and state are and should be separate institutions, but the idea that we can have a state or civil society without core principles that are rooted in something beyond "common ground" or some nebulously defined "shared values" is false. There is, must be, always has been, and always will be, a god of every system. Choose which one, you may, but deny that there is one, you may not.

I know. Catholic priests are not allowed to Diddle little boys anymore. Nuns are not allowed to beat and belittle little children. They cant even kill little orphaned people anymore. in the world. The secular and more atheistic countries like in northern Europe and east asia have the lowest rates of violence in the world.
Also outside of the USA, very religious countries like in Latin America/Africa and the middle east have the highest rates of violence.

The key is to acknowledge that this is a great country, filled with real opportunity, then focus on the guiding principles that made us great. The idea that just because America has gotten a lot of things horribly wrong along the way means we are an evil, failed country is not only false, but it's a dangerous lie because it's leading to deeper and deeper division which benefits a handful in the short run.
The founding principles of individual worth, rights, and freedom, and a government set up strictly for the purposes of defending all of that, are brilliant and effective ... but only if we respect them and follow them. Preach that and practice that and we're good. Don't, and we're in big trouble.
