Well, I actually did some digging. This is what the official numbers say:

1,084,282 - almost 1.1 million - have died of COVID here in the US of A.

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

How many died of the vaccine? I was genuinely curious - I had heard it was incredibly rare, as were serious complications - and this is what JAMA and the National Library of Medicine says (sorry, I prefer official medical sources for this, not reddit threads, and this was through VAERS, which is a report submitted when a death occurs after a vaccine is administered)

13 in America, 14 in Europe.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8511593/

This is what the doctors think and say. If you want to argue with them, hey, stop going to doctors, I guess. No skin off mine and you'll soon not be my problem.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Yeah? How many?

Well, people who stop going to doctors tend to not last long.

The average life expectancy before modern medicine was as low as 35 in some civilizations.

Re: Yeah? How many?

Sep 30, 2022, 1:39 PM

I go to doctors. I’m guessing I have a lot more medical training than you? I just did not and will not take the Covid vaccine especially since I’ve had Covid. That’s a very reasonable and sound position.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Yeah? How many?

Sep 30, 2022, 1:45 PM

Why? You seem to feel qualified to disagree with their official take.

If you don't believe in the medical establishment, why are you wasting your money going to them and trusting the judgment of folks who literally go to school for years and jump through only God knows how many hoops to know what they know? (Actually I do know what hoops, since my sister's a doctor.)

That seems kind of hypocritical. Would you walk into the cockpit of a 747 and start pushing levers and yanking on the controls at random because you're convinced the pilot who trained for years doesn't know what he's doing and you somehow do?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Yeah? How many?

Sep 30, 2022, 1:49 PM

I never faulted anyone who wanted the vaccine. I do have a problem with doctors who have ignored natural immunity as a reasonable choice.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Yeah? How many?

Sep 30, 2022, 2:25 PM

What I'm asking, though, is that if you have that little faith in doctors' opinions - and they are overwhelmingly, like 99.99% in favor of vaccines - why would you bother going to them?

No, we should never have blind faith in any institution or profession, but when the chips are down, the wise man defers to the opinion of the experts...and what they almost one and all are saying is: the vax works and your odds of suffering adverse side effects are about the same as winning the Powerball lottery.

Don't we sort of...have to? There's so much human knowledge now no one person can possibly be an expert in all of it, so if we're not deferring to the experts, doesn't that essentially make us CharlestonTom coming on here and telling us all Hurricane Ian wasn't a real hurricane and wouldn't do anything right before it wiped Fort Meyers off the map? Or that millions of Indians were in fact dying of "starvation" about ten minutes after I got done texting back and forth with an old friend and former business partner of mine called Pasha who was busy sending respirators back to his relatives in New Delhi on his own dime because they were dropping like flies of COVID and he felt the need to help out?

We don't pick and choose how the guy flying the 747 flies it. We just trust him to fly it because we have to and hope he's up to it, and if he flies it upside down and dumps the passengers out all over the aisle because, well, he was flying upside-down-like, we fire him afterwards...but that's about all the control we actually have, right?

All this vax info comes from, seemingly, two main places: hostile foreign powers like Russia (where the bulk of the vax disinformation originated) and reddit and 8kun threads from folks just like Tom who are just blindly hostile to every establishment because they're basically Morlocks and they hate everyone and want to kill most of them. (He genuinely does.)

You are neither. So I don't get it.

Re: Yeah? How many?

Sep 30, 2022, 2:40 PM

Again, I don’t have a problem with doctors who advise their patients to get vaccinated. I do have a major problem with any doctor telling me I must get the vaccine after having Covid. That doctor would be ignoring the role of natural immunity and frankly, what he/she should have learned in medical school. Why have so many ignored natural immunity as a very reasonable choice? I have no idea. It makes no sense.
I’ll give you my very basic definition of a vaccine. A vaccine is an “artificial attempt to produce a defensive response to a pathogen similar to the way the body would respond after having been exposed to the pathogen”. In other words, the purpose of a vaccine is to try to copy what our body would do. (Copy natural immunity). I’m not wrong on that. It’s basic science. I just can’t imagine any honest or knowledgeable doctor who would argue that.
My wife and I had Covid 22 months ago. We are not vaccinated. Our choice is based on knowledge of how the human body works and not because we are “science deniers”, or “Trumptards” or any other labels. We’ve been directly exposed to Covid many times in the past 22 months with no reinfection. Lucky? I don’t think so. Do I believe I can get reinfected? Of course but I’m at no more risk now than the fully vaccinated and most likely at less risk.

Re: Yeah? How many?

Sep 30, 2022, 4:33 PM

So again, you're saying that you know better than these ignorant doctors "what they should know"?

Again and again and again: you do not pick and choose how the pilot flies the 747...but because he knows how to do it a heckuva lot better than you do, your odds are still overwhelmingly better if you let the pilot fly the plane.

You aren't doing that. So again, why waste your time with doctors at all if you're going to just disregard the most important thing they tell you in the most dangerous pandemic in probably the last 200-300 years, worldwide?

Re: Yeah? How many?

Sep 30, 2022, 4:43 PM

I don’t think you are hearing me. Natural immunity is absolutely as protective and likely more protective than the multiple jabs. Let me be clear. If a doctor is denying that natural immunity is a sound reason for me opting out of the vaccine then yes, I do know more than that individual doctor. You can read my vaccine definition to your sister if you want. She can not deny that what I stated is accurate.
I’m not a doctor. But I do have a medical background. I am not wrong on this.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Yeah? How many?

Sep 30, 2022, 5:06 PM

Doctors do argue that.

They do not deny "natural immunity" is a thing. It absolutely is. You're undoubtedly more protected now than you were before the first time you got it, that's why so-called "virgin field epidemics" are so devastating, they get into a population with no immunity, and whoosh, brushfire.

But they absolutely argue completely the opposite, and their studies are pretty conclusive on that:

https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/conditions-and-diseases/coronavirus/covid-natural-immunity-what-you-need-to-know

Again, the reason I'm arguing so hard is twofold. I'm incredibly leery of the way misinformation and deliberately-targeted disinformation (disinformation is deliberate, used by hostile parties for the purposes of harm, pure and simple), are poisoning our discussion and even our possession of the actual facts as a culture and a nation, and most importantly: COVID-19 was probably either an accidental lab leak or a freak act of nature.

The next megabug won't be. It's in the playbook now, and bad actors worldwide have seen how vulnerable America (and the West) are to disinformation, and how our own cretins like Fox News will capitalize on institutional distrust because it plays with their audience, and as such, pays. (They're literally killing people for profit. Doubt it? Fox News owner Rupert Murdoch was one of the first humans on Planet Earth vaccinated, in December 2020. In England, by the way, where he splits his time between there and Australia. America's just a cash cow to him, a target audience...and obviously, an expendable one.)

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-murdoch/murdoch-receives-covid-19-vaccine-as-fox-news-host-casts-suspicion-on-campaign-idUSKBN28S2J7

The next one's likely going to be deliberate, and if we don't act with unity and purpose and organization next time, we're going to drop like flies. We lost almost 1.1 million and counting...how many will we lose next time?

I'd prefer you didn't die, and I'd really prefer you didn't run around infecting others because you're counting on "natural immunity" and as such become a walking incubator of death because, well, you think it's your right as a Real 'Merricun, you know?

And I'd be willing to bet there is a next time, and within the next 10-20 years. It'll come from some obscure province in Africa or South America, but its origin is almost certainly going to be a biolab from China or Iran. That is the world we now live in.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Yeah? How many?

Sep 30, 2022, 8:31 PM

I am no more an incubator of death than the guy who has had multiple jabs. The vaccines do not stop transmission. I’m watching my fully vaccinated friends get 2 and sometimes 3 infections while we unvaccinated seem to rarely be reinfected. I know this is hard for you to accept but my decision is not based on Fox News or any other outlet. It’s based on my understanding of how immunity works within the human body. It’s that simple.

The libs are falling for it - medicine by statistics.

This is what we all get if we go to a national health system or if the gubment has more overreach into our healthcare.

Medicine by statistics mean you get the nominal/median/average treatment given to others with your symptoms. Forget finding the 1/2 of a percent of people that get XYZ (fatal if untreated) because we can't afford to look for 1/2 of a percent.

0.5% = 1,750,000 people. How would you feel to be in a group of nearly 2 million people who die because your statistics don't allow money to be spent on you?

Ultimately it MUST go that direction if the big bureaucracy runs healthcare.

Sure. Math. Statistics. Pff.

We prefer reddit threads, e-mail chains of uncertain origin, and Tucker Carlson dialogues. That's where real wisdom comes from, by golly.

Aren't you an engineer and self-declared PhD who lives and dies by, well, math?
