All right, but apart from the sanitation, medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, the freshwater system and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?

I was over there in August 1999. We had a tour guide named Danny from Haifa who took us around everyday, and this particular day we were going to the Mount of Olives, which is just east of Jerusalem looking at the Eastern Gate. That's the gate that Jesus is supposed to re-enter Jerusalem through, and so it's where all the Jews who want to be first in line for the World to Come are buried.

So we're up on the Mount talking, and he's telling us history and such, and we start to get a solar eclipse. And this guy FREAKS out. An eclipse in 1999. HOLY &%$%^&. And he starts walking around in circles, practically trembling, talking about how he has to get back to his family in Haifa. He never said it, but I presume for the end of the world. So, we said "we can just walk around some and find a taxi, go and take care of your family."

So he ran off to his car and took off like a rabbit. The eclipse ended up being kind of a bust, we made it back to the hotel, and he showed up the next morning, on time, as his normal self. And the world went on.

Anyhow he was a pretty good guy, taught us a lot, and we gave him a nice tip at the end of the trip. We were late getting to our plane out so he had to break every law and call in every chip from every friend he had in Tel-Aviv to get us on that El Al flight. And then we connected flights and caught the big earthquake in Istanbul that year. Quite a trip.

I was in Israel in 1989. Last ship, last med cruise. Saw a lot. Walked around OLD Jerusalem, the Mount of Olives, leaned against the Wailing Wall, brought home water from the Jordan River, and have some stones I picked up in Capernaum at an archeological site. Rode the tour bus to a hill overlooking Bethlehem. H They would not allow us any closer as the danger level for Americans was too high. Saw more than I have listed. Very interesting place. Also went to Alexandria, to the museums, the pyramids, and other sites as well. Would love to go again.

Yes, we to Egypt while we were there as well. Loved both and would go back in a heartbeat, but conditions haven't been really safe since. And who knows when they will be again :(

The more significant is that folks don't want to remember what Jesus taught which is recorded in Matthew 24:

"6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

Much is learned from the word 'but.' What we have now is exactly wars and rumors of wars.

What's missing is the entire world rising to attack Israel and the global persecution of Christians. So many of us are desperate to claim persecution here in America but even the more liberal SCOTUS Justices defend our rights to worship and serve God. It's not Heaven but it ain't bad.

When Jesus comes back Christians will leave this world without dying. That makes me want to believe He will return today. I don't believe it because the signs aren't right. The world has not turned against Israel.

Today, just as it was during the Diaspora the most popular message of prophesy is the coming of a conquering Messiah. It's the feel good message which gives hope to most. The alternative is 'We're all going to have to face death.'

Which message do you think most fills the coffers?

This seems to explain religion in general, in my opinion.

Think up any sentence, and someone somewhere is claiming it to be true. As a general expectation, Jesus coming because of Hamas shooting at Israel is not something I have heard, so the OP is overstated a bit. But my hearing's not what it used to be: too many headphone hours with the Allman Bros at 90 db.

What I have heard are reminders that events continue to head in that direction, involving means and people as foretold. Whether that culminates in 100 days or 100 years no one can say: Jesus indicated that even he didnt know, certainly that no human will know. IMO, there is little if anything in that chapter that prevents Russia and China from manipulating the conflict to involve themselves tomorrow, and if that happens ...

Probably not, but we see it coming. I think you are saying Jesus is telling us to not worry, and that if one's faith is not already disentangled from the world, it better be. Our message should be that, not, "Let's become activists."

This is why…copied from Facebook.

WHY DOES ISRAEL MATTER???

Did you know that the time clock of the return of JESUS CHRIST isn’t based on America’s timeline? It’s based on what is happening in Israel.

Did you know JESUS wasn’t a “Christian” ? HE was a Jew. HE celebrated and kept the Jewish holy days and customs, as well as the feasts of the LORD. HE didn’t come to eradicate the Torah and writing of the Prophets / Old Testament. HE came to fulfill the prophecies that were written in them.

When JESUS returns, HE isn’t returning to the United States. The Bible says HE is going to plant HIS foot down on the Mount of Olives and go through the Eastern Gate, which is currently sealed off with 16 feet of concrete. A cemetery was also placed in front of that gate because touching the dead makes a Jew considered unclean and unable to enter the Temple, which is considered Holy. The Word of GOD says HE will return there and from there HE will rule and reign for 1,000 years.

The final battle isn’t going to be on U.S. soil. It’s going to be in the Valley of Megiddo, in Israel. The BIBLE says as the nations wage war against Israel JESUS will come and destroy HIS enemies with the breath of HIS mouth. 2 Thess 2:8

GOD did not replace the Jews with Christians as some believe. We are actually grafted in with them as you would graft a wild branch into an existing tree.

The Word of GOD says, “When you touch Israel, you touch the Apple of GOD’s eye.” Zechariah 2:8

“He that keeps Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps. The LORD is thy keeper.” Psalm 121:4

“I will bless those that bless you and I will curse those that curse you.” Genesis 12:3

We are also commanded to pray for the peace of Jerusalem in Psalm 122.

ISRAEL matters. 🇮🇱

PRAY FOR ISRAEL.🙏🏻🙏🙏

I don't really get this part. If it's really God's plan then nothing you say or do is going to affect it right?

What exactly does praying accomplish here? As if you don't pray for Israel it might disrupt the plan?

I think prayer is a way to bring comfort maybe to yourself more than anything.

I mean it does suck to think all those people slaughtered are gone. Their lives meaningless now.

People maybe are just looking for some kind of answers. I have no problem with that.

My issue is the fundamentalism that pervades religion. You could say that’s actually what’s to blame for this in the first place.

It has two functions. The first is to place us in the Hand of God by understanding and confessing that His will is more important that ours.

Frankly, you went on my prayer list and worked your way to the top by annoying me. Yours is the first name I call out to God next to mine. That is why I love you. I didn't love you when you made the list but the entire purpose of praying for enemies, it makes a man able to love those he wouldn't think he could love.

Qualifier: I never considered you an enemy. I have only one and that's my flesh which rises up and gets between me and God. Even when I read about Israel's OT enemies, Psalms and the prophets I consider myself as being the idol worshiping heathen who would destroy God's chosen.

Changing God's will is possible but it's the most dangerous thing a man can do. Most folks don't have the faith to do it and those who do understand the repercussions. Anyone who would pray to change God's will is a fool.

Maybe, but in that case, pretty much everyone I've ever heard pray has it wrong too.

Well, I'll let you know if it works, but so far, it's the same result I got. Nothing.

You would think one with such authority would demand attention with loud, booming tones which command notice. I think the world has Him all wrong. The loudest He ever spoke was at Calvary Hill when He slayed His only Son which said 'I love you this much!' to the world.

Exekiel 44:

"1 Then he brought me back the way of the gate of the outward sanctuary which looketh toward the east; and it was shut.

2 Then said the LORD unto me; This gate shall be shut, it shall not be opened, and no man shall enter in by it; because the LORD, the God of Israel, hath entered in by it, therefore it shall be shut.

3 It is for the prince; the prince, he shall sit in it to eat bread before the LORD; he shall enter by the way of the porch of that gate, and shall go out by the way of the same."

So that's why the eastern gate is all bricked up.

They need to throw all the heathens out of Israel and rebuild that Temple and get this over with. :)
