There is really nothing they can do

Aug 16, 2023, 3:35 PM

Clemson & FSU (& others) CANNOT get out of the ACC without paying huge amounts of cash - and none of the other Power conferences nor their TV sponsors are willing to pony up that kind of cash to get these teams. And with the deal with cash-strapped ESPN lasting another 12 years, I don't see how Clemson can do anything but try to compete with half the money of other power schools.

How long can that last before people start to leave ??

Is that all that you have to be concerned about? Nothing can be done so
enjoy the game.

Yeah, let's not think about the future.

I was always told to not worry about things beyond your control.

At some point, they will use some sort of debt instrument to pay it off while simultaneously running a fund-raising campaign to pay the debt off over time. The heat will get turned up when the next wave of serious realignment begins and the super-conference scenario starts to take shape. It may also get worked out with a new buyer of the contract if Disney were to unload ESPN.

I guess they would have to declare they are leaving by next August to be effective for the 2025 season so they have 2 years to work through it.

You don't think the super-conferences movement has already begun ?

And what makes you think that Clemson & FSU will remain highly desired programs as they struggle to compete with half the funds ?

And how many players & coaches will remain in a program that is struggling to compete ?

The biggest deficits don't really get rolling for another couple of years and I'd bet something happens before that so just hang tight.

Not calling you a coot but you may have slept in a Columbia Holiday Inn Express.

Well...

I could agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

NO WAYY IN HE!! Clemson simply elects to just ride it out for the next 12 years. I can tell you right now, that ain't gonna happen.

As someone else previously mentioned, at some point in the not to distant future, not only Clemson but other ACC members, will likely set-up some kind of a debt instrument to buy their way out of the league and the GOR.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

That's why 4 schools voted against adding Cal and Stanford.

Aug 17, 2023, 11:26 AM

That would add at least one to the 8 it takes to break the GOR.

The other problem is that ESPN is hitting a money crunch. They simply don't have the cash to revise the ACC GOR upward right now.
