Jack Leggett

My only issue with firing Jack: We have been behind the 8 ball with baseball for years. I can tell you for a fact it has affected recruiting, it has affected a lot more as well. Leggett has been pushing for Clemson to upgrade, not just in facilities, but with scholarships, etc. that has impeded the progress and brought our program to being just a "good" program instead of a great program.
The administration cannot tie the hands of a coach and then blame him for not producing. The reality is that we have lost players because we are behind on the scholarship offers where kids are getting more money from other schools via the "endowment" funds or whatever the term is they are using.
When other schools are being able to have 20 scholarships to divide between 25 players and we only have 10 scholarship to divide between 25 players, guess what? You aren't going to get certain kids to come. If you look at the last several years, and this information came straight from the best pitcher we have ever had at Clemson in my opinion, we are only having 1 quality starter, whereas in years past we had 3 strong starters and sometimes 4 and great relievers, to having just one really good starter and we hope for the best from the rest of the guys. Why? because those other great pitchers are going other places.
I just think it is a little disingenuous to put it all on the coach when you are not keeping up with the Joneses in the modern world of college athletics.
It doesn't matter WHO you bring in as coach if you are not going to address these other issues. And some of the coaches that we want to look at and that we think would want to come, isn't going to come when they are at schools that are ahead of the curve with college baseball as it relates to the above aforementioned issues.
We have relied on our past glory days of baseball thinking it was enough. But just as we saw in football, we were 20 years behind for a long time. Tommy Bowden started the turn around, and Dabo has knocked the wall down and now we can compete with anyone for almost any player.
Until that is done with baseball, it doesn't matter who comes as the next head coach.

There is no excuse for losing

As much as people try to make excuses for Jack, valid or not, he just wasn't getting the job done. Kudos to D-rad for having the gonads to get rid of Jack. He just sent a message loud and clear to every coach at Clemson , that if you don't win, you won't have a job here.

..."Winning's not the main thing, its the only thing"
there are many more. you can probably fill out a long list.
You're reportedly a coot. I couldn't care less. But at Clemson, we try our best to win, to succeed at everything attempted. But, at Clemson, we put great store by winning with class, by having student-athletes that display strong character, by making sure our student-athletes get a solid education and graduate, to make sure they become good men and women.
You toss the term "losing" around as if it defined Jack Leggett's career at Clemson. The exact opposite of that is true....on and off the field.
Like many, I thought the Clemson baseball program was ready for some new blood at the top. I wish that his dismissal could've been done with a bit more class than happened. But, its over now and move on we all must.
And as far as "losing", the only losers I see are idiots who post the drivel you did

So if you aren't given a level playing field you think you can still win? If that is your premise then you do t know much about sports

Does a level playing field include lack of basic fundamentals our team displayed on a consistent basis ?

Again, we were not getting the cream of the crop guys like we used to. We have some VERY GOOD players and something we have to remember, is that we are not getting the ELITE players anymore.
How something translates to the field is more on the players than coaching. I do understand that the coach will receive the blame for the mistakes made. I can assure you that Jack is not teaching the guys to not be smart on base running, or fielding or throwing..... I do think some assistants were not as good as we have had in the past.
But AGAIN..... the administration has to level the playing field before you can hold a coach accountable for not achieving certain goals. When the playing field is level, then you can cast blame squarely on the shoulders of the coach.

Terre is absolutely no excuse for the lack of basic skills and baseball knowledge exhibited by our teams in several recent this year. And yet, "of course it isn't coaching". Really???

unless we fall in line with the elite. It is not about JL, but it is about how "all in" our admin is willing to be.

Very good analysis. There is a common thread among almost all of our formerly successful non-revenue sports. They don't do as well as they used to. It is because they are not playing on a lecel field where in the past we did.
